What is your opinion on werewolves?

Do they Exist? Are they horrible monsters that should be hunted to extinction? Are they just normal wolves that have just grown bigger than they're supposed to?

When posting to this thread, please make your reply at least 2 sentences long....

If you have any questions about them for me, just mail me and ask them.

wer is Old English for "man." It is related to the Latin word, vir. From which we get words like virility, virile, and virtue. You may see the relateness of the word more clearly, if you know that "v" in classical Latin was pronounced like our letter "w."

Hmmm but not everyone is agreed on the hard or soft V and C sound in latin. Im certainly not and Im a classicist!

WE DONT KNOW how Latin was pronounced appart from Church Latin which is a medieval mess based on vulgar, low, latin.

Anyway, werewolves certainly don't exist. Based on garish folk tales, I suspect based on larger than average wolves or men living in the forest, perhaps as trappers or outcasts, who look and act a bit odd.

Everything that is myth today is usually based in some sort of fact
Whether that fact is a true verification or not depends on the myth itself you are talking about

Lycanthropy or werewolfism has been around for as long as there has been man and it shows up in almost all cultures
And like Vampirism where the effects that occur on a dead body were mistaken for evidence of being a vampire
shriveling of a body in relation to the remaining hair was taken as evidence of hair growth for example
There were physical and mental disorders that were taken to be evidence of werewolves
The physical disorder of porphyria specifically porphyria cutanea tarda
was very likely the disorder which was mistaken for werewolfism
Untreated the disease will cause facial hair growth and since it is a disease that effects heme production there will be red staining of the teeth
It also affects the nervous system with seizures, light sensitivity and mania

Well according to the documentary Underworld, they are very real and have long been the servants/slaves of the Vampiresicon_eek.gif

I suggest you read up on this book to further your research: "Without Reservations" by J.L. Langley.
It's fascinating to read about their prevalence within the US these days. We read this in our book-group and had one of the liveliest discussions ever.

Ah, all this talk of werewolves reminds me of the song from 30 Rock. Werewolf Bar Mitzvah.

Anyone else? No? Just me, then...

In the Laurell K. Hamilton Anita Blake novel, Lunatic Cafe, one of the sub plots revolves around human/shapeshifter porn. Anita watches one that turns into a snuff film when the werewolf rips the girl he's fucking apart and then keeps fucking what's left of her while he eats her. Many books later in the series, she gets over her squeamishness about fur and has a three-way with her wereleopard boyfriend and a werewolf buddy and allows them to shift while they fuck her.

This past Halloween I was jamming to this in my car. They played on the radio a few times.

I jump at the opportunity to post this song as it is one of my favorites.

That's....some weird shit. It's like Bjork on meth.

    Good find.

And werewolves exist...I've seen them in the gym locker room. Covered in hair. Smell like balls. Frightening.

The dogs that played Roughy were wolf hybrids (part wolf and part Airedale Terrier).
