This is getting so tiresome...any American that rags on Canada for its crime rate...look in the mirror first.
According to: vol. 21, no. 11 issue of Juristat: Crime...Here are comparative crime statistics, for violent crime in Aggravated Assault category:
Canada: 143 incidents per 100,000 population
U.S.: 345 incidents per 100,000 population
In 2001 and 2002 combined, there was a total of 928 hate crimes in Canada. Of those, 9% were thought to be anti-gay in nature.
From the FBI's own website, in 2002 there were 7462 hate crimes in the US alone and
"...Of the total single-bias incidents reported in 2002, 48.8 percent were motivated by racial bias, 19.1 percent were driven by prejudice against a particular religion, 16.7 percent involved a sexual-orientation bias..."
So, yes, Canada is veritable bastion of sanity compared to the rabble-roused, hate-filled, gun-toting, survivalist lunatic fringe that we have in the U.S.
