ok, so i enjoy a nice sauna after working out when i have time. but the one at my gym can be a little sleazy at times. generally, if you just have a towel providing full coverage then the dudes will keep from pawing themselves. the problem is, i like to put my towel on the bench and stretch out on my back for a bit and then flip over and do the same on my stomach. my friend says i'm asking for trouble by exposing my bits but my view is this - it's an all-male SAUNA. why should i have to wear shorts or bring in two towels to avoid sending so-called "signals?"

Um. Apparently you weren't aware, but that whole gay thing is real. If you expose everything, then someone might think you are gay and looking to meet other guys.

Of course I could be wrong.

My gym is co-ed so nakedness is not an issue but guys still cruise the sauna. It doesn't bother me.

As a matter of decorum, you should wear something. Unless you like "advertising" and appearing slutty, you'll want to behave appropriately. It's not a bath house. It's a gym. If you want to be slutty, take it to the bathhouse.

I've only been in my sauna one time, but generally time doesn't allow me
a sauna visit. I've heard a number of stories, primarily about our YMCA downtown Wichita. If I were in a sauna and witnessed some escapades, I'd probably look on with some amusement. It isn't my style to do any more.

I see nothing wrong with being nude in the sauna or steam room, provided you don't have your bare ass on the seat. If other people view it as an invitation to have sex with them, a swift punch in the throat should deter them.

this is EXACTLY my point. why does being naked in the sauna qualify you as "advertising" or "acting slutty?" guys are naked all the time in the locker room. changing. talking. watching football. showering and shaving. it's a gym and a SAUNA. jeez. every man over 60 is nude in there. why shouldn't i have the same luxury?

If someone plays a little grabass, tell them politely you are just relaxing and are not interested. It is a sauna. People are naked and people cruise in saunas. A little grabass happens now and again. Why should you modify your behavior because *gasp* someone might hit on you?

Modify your perfectly acceptable behavior and soon enough you are wearing board shorts in the shower. As long as you are polite, you are doing just fine.

    1. Not proper to rip towel from cute guy's waist and go down on him as he walks by.

    2. Not proper to stroke fully erect penis while moaning loudly...though if you have a gorgeous penis that behavior might be overlooked...just don't moan.

    3. Not proper to sit on all fours, back arched winking your hole, and looking hungrily at cute guy as he enters steam room...unless of course he winks back!!

jesus, it doesn't take much to bring out the shady lady in some guys here. i'm sure that anyone in relatively decent shape in my sauna would get the same reaction. i'd say get off your high horse but you seem to be riding the opposite of that. is there a low horse? pity pot?

    I swear I didn't mean to oggle!icon_lol.gif
You could be in the sauna wearing a full body parka and guys will still think you're giving out signals. Enjoy your sauna time and if the guys can't keep from pawing themselves, so be it.

Me, on the other hand, if I saw TallHairy in the sauna, I'd more of the "deer in the headlights" look on my face,icon_eek.gif, followed a lot of drooling...wait...what was my point again?

I like to stretch out also without a towel. More so in the steam room than a sauna. There are cruisers in there, but if you look away if they start wanking, that shows you are not interested. They get it and may enjoy oogling your body, but will leave you alone. It's your right to be naked in there without being approached.

A lot of gyms solve this very problem by requiring you to wear a bathing suit. Maybe you should think about doing the same.

I find the idea of having to sit in someone else's, or even my own, butt juice, more than a bit disgusting. I'd like to think someone would keep their ass, dick, or other parts, out of my face. If they want to run around naked, they can do it at home, or the bathhouse. The gym simply isn't the place for that. Allowing it turns the place into a pick up spot, and no wonder folks say fags are weird. They are.

True, there are some guys who run around in locker rooms with Rover flopping in the wind, but, there should be a better sense of decorum. It's not a bath house. It's a gym, which often has little kids, and folks with different sensibilities. The mature thing to do is to behave properly. If you need to get naked with the guys, hit the bathhouse, or close the curtains at home, and get as naked as you want.

At the gym, I'd like not to have it sexualized, and, I'd like it more sanitary.

It's mainly just a common sense thing. Just because some folks steal, play Hip Hop, and behave poorly, that's not justification for behaving badly, too.
Two wrongs NEVER add up to a right.

I quit using the steam room and sauna because I'm sick of folks cruising me there. What it has become in some gyms goes beyond disgusting.

I disagree, and with your subsequent post here. I'm a life-long devotee of the sauna, and it's taken naked. And in European countries quite often even when it's coed.

The skin needs to be exposed to the heat all over to achieve the best effect. And some people, like me, will get a latex allergy rash from wearing shorts or swim trunks with an elasticized waistband, that normally wouldn't bother me in other situations, except under the conditions of high heat and moisture.

And if we've just come from an open gang shower, as sauna and steam room etiquette and proper hygiene require, what exactly are we men hiding from each other? Or are we supposed to be dressed in the shower, too?

You sit on your towel, which takes care of the issue of cleanliness of the benches. Many public saunas & steam rooms will have a sign to remind everyone of that requirement, and when some guy doesn't comply, I'll point it out to him. (I've also used men's steam rooms that had large rolls of tear-off paper outside the door, on which you could also sit your bare butt, if not a towel)

I can also tell you that some men's saunas and steam rooms also have signs that PROHIBIT clothes and REQUIRE nudity, as well as a shower beforehand, for sanitary reasons. Otherwise you get guys sitting in their sweaty & smelly workout clothes, or their jogging outfits, who didn't take a shower first. And their sweat is soaking through those filthy clothes into the wooden benches, depositing bacteria and bad odors.

So the rule is to strip and take a soapy shower. Sitting there and stinking as you bake in the sauna is anything but polite, and the antithesis of sauna etiquette.

And if some gay guys can't behave themselves, I'll call them on that, too, as well as for not sitting their bare asses on towels. And THAT'S the proper etiquette in a public sauna or steam room, other than in a gay bathhouse.

What good is a sauna, if you're not nude? Only sitting on a towel is obligatory and on no bench level I ever had the problem of someone getting too close with his junk to me.
Is it just me or are people getting more prude these days, like on the last South Park episode, where Cartman gets annoyed about guys with bellies that only go into the pool wearing shirts?

totally agree. i think saunas are indeed intended for nude folks. but i don't think i'm being prudish to not want to hear the sickening wet squish of some old dude stroking his junk while i'm lying down naked, zoned out. i'm on the verge of going off on these guys in a big way. thinking it might be the way to go. all 6'9" of me naked and screaming seems like good aversion therapy.

Do it, put these slimy fools in there dark little boxes. Some guy grabbed me in the sauna once and i smacked his hand so hard that it flew back and cracked off the wall. The look of fear in his eyes and the apologies that came dribbling out of his mouth were sickening as he ran from the sauna.

I have no problem with nudity, at all. I regularly go to nudist beaches when i get the chance, and its not to be a perve. I like the freedom and the relaxation i get from just letting go of socially enthrusted norms.

But i draw the line at someone trying to take advantage of a situation because they're a horny creepy troll.

Sure if you wanna sit down and have a chat, talk about the weather, life or the universe, i have no problem with it. If you happen to be cool, sane, laid back and lets say good looking icon_biggrin.gif, we might be going further in the future.

But if your a creepy troll, you will get PUT DOWN icon_twisted.gif

It doesn't. I don't view a locker room, or any other place in the gym where nakedness can and does occur as a place for sex or advertising sex.

I am feeling so totally naive because I have never even seen a hint of this type of behavior in any gym. If I ever discovered tallhairy doing his thing in the sauna I'd be there waiting for him every day LOL
