Utterly disgusted with the Grammys.

Over the past couple years, you have all come to know me as a very opinionated person. I'm about to elaborate on yet another conjecture:

Last night's Grammy awards were just about the worst awards ceremony I've ever seen. Pink gave a decent vocal performance of a mediocre song in a fabulous wet outfit, but from then on, it was a downward spiral.

Folks, dare I ask? When did it become acceptable to the American public that the same producers make the same f*cking shit over and over? Why did "Single Ladies" win? It's a piece of shit. It's an overproduced, meaningless combination of babbling. It's anything but artistic. It's easy to sing along with, though, and so everyone knows it. Does that make it a good song?

What happened to Mary J. Blige? U2? Joni Mitchell? Beatles? What has happened to music? How do you guys feel about this? Do you blindly follow? Do you just accept that piss-poor song writing is worth your dime? Do you think that *maybe* we should be recognizing some real artisits?

Do you even understand how awful those award winners are as performers? Beyonce is an exception, but I don't excuse her either. She's a great performer, but I don't forgive her for the shit she's turning out. Andrea Bocelli performing on the Grammys? Are you KIDDING me? He's a mediocre singer at best and he's famous because he's blind. You KNOW it's bad when Mary J. Blige has a bigger voice than a supposed "opera singer," and she has to stop singing on the last note because the blind idiot is apparently making a case for his DEAFNESS by singing so blatantly out of tune. Oh, and speaking of FLAT, did we notice that Taylor Swift was, as badmikeyt put it, "flatter than a Plains state?"

People, this is not a place to defend your crappy hip-hop stars. It's a thread where I encourage you, rather, to bitch loudly about the shit show that people are selling you. They're making money, not music. It's unacceptable. And 50 Cent agrees.

    PS:

Despite my distaste for popular music, I've always found the Black Eyed Peas to be pretty good for their genre.... but their most recent album, as well as their performance, were weak.... to say the least

I don't even watch these award shows anymore because it annoys me so much.

Like Beyonce and EVERYTHING SHE DOES it put on such a high pedestal and I don't get why?!?

I'm just over all these same singers: Beyonce, Rihanna, Pink, Lady Gaga, Britney, Christina...

like can we get some new, fresh faces for once? Even then, they ALWAYS get compared to the people listed above and never get the success they deserve. So sad!

But then again... my poor Heidi Montag will never win a Grammy icon_cry.gif

You know who I miss? Jewel! Can she please come out with a sexy album again, like she did with "Intuition." Still ultimately one of my favorite songs!

I agree. But people were disgusted with Elvis as well as The Beatles when they were new.

That's not a fair comparison. Old-schoolers were disgusted because Elvis and the Beatles were provocative. But they were writing quality music, unlike the production-conglomerates who direct the shit show these days.

    Where was Andrew Bird?

Yeah, quality music like "You Ain't Nothing but a Hound Dog" and "I Wanna Hold Your Hand". Seriously though, I find a lot of the newer music formulaic and soulless. For every one of me, there are a thousand that probably disagree.
Managed to watch about five minutes of Black Eyed Peas...lots of sound and fury...

"I Wanna Hold Your Hand" never won a grammy. Sgt. Pepper, however, did win album of the year.

Well.....regardless of what you are saying about the Grammies (which I don't totally agree with you), what is this comment for? Blind idiot?

Do you get a pass at saying anything you want because you are "OPINIONATED"?

    Not cool.

I tried to watch. I saw the Black Eyed Peas and the sound mixing was so horrible that I reverted back to the video game I was playing. Apparantly that was a good decision.

I'm not saying that he's an idiot because he's blind, if that's what you're getting at. He's blind, yes. And he's an idiot amongst classical stars.

No, I don't get a pass because I'm opinionated. However, as a trained musician who sings better than Bocelli, and as a teacher, and as someone who has studied music formally for the past 27 years, I feel it's my duty to defend the art form I've committed my life and career to.

ANY "pat each other on the back" awards show is about the lowest thing on my list of what I care about.

They made such a big deal about Mary J Blige and the guy who kept looking at boobs, singing Bridge Over Troubled Water It was no big deal to me. Although, I do love me some Mary J, but that song was...well

I know this is really late. But what really pissed me off was that they didn't have a closing performance!!! they just gave the award and were like "cya next year everyone" WTF!!! how do you end the Grammy's like that!

    I didn't watch, but if I did, I'm sure I'd agree w the OP.
Why the hell do people think Beyonce is so special. She's mediocre at best.
A good example of The Emperors new Clothes... she's got nothing. but we're constantly told that she does.

Her voice is annoying and pitchy even if she's in tune.

And I don't hate R&B, I just love the good stuff. here's a nice voice to calm us down... and the exact opposite of the other R&B bimbo

All around shittiest Grammys ever. Even the normally fantastic performers weren't bringing their A game. Nobody was even close to their best. It's as if they all shrugged their shoulders and said, "awww, fuck it" somewhere between the red carpet and the stage.
