Do you wear a ski helmet when you're skiing? Seems that a lot of people in European resorts are wearing them and not just the children. I'm wondering whether I should hire one when I go skiing in March.

Either that, or you could be Sonny Bono. From an online bio:

"On January 5, 1998, Bono died from head injuries sustained when he struck a tree while skiing on the Nevada side of Heavenly Ski Resort near South Lake Tahoe, California.[12] He was 62. ...His death came just a little less than a week after Michael Kennedy, a son of Robert F. Kennedy, died in a similar skiing accident in Aspen, Colorado."

Absolutely - without question. A large group of us were at the gay New England ski week two weeks ago. One of us lost control in the glades and went head first in a tree. He had to be flown to a hospital. He doing fine thanks to his helmet.

Everyone on the slopes should be wearing a helmet. It should be mandatory.

Buy a Full Shell helmet. I love my Leedom helmet. Consumer Reports ranked them for the best impact ski helmet a few years back when I brought mine. A good full shell helmet from them is their 'Scream' model which is what I have.

I always wear a helmet when I ski. No matter what slope I am going down. I actually fall more on greens than blacks.

Got one several years ago, a Leedom full helmet. Am crazy about it! Light weight, not really aware that it's on - and - keeps the ears warm. Have yet to test it with a me versus tree episode (which is fine with me) but do like the sense of security when a boarder comes flying out of the trees about head height, or narrow miss with an "I'm-the-only-one-on-this-run" type.

I just got one this past weekend while skiing in France. I think that not only does it protect you from your own idiocy, but also from that of all those around you. Basically, you lose nothing by having one but you have all to lose not having one.

Once you wear one, you won't feel the same without it. Sure, they're safer, but they're also warmer and come in handy when tree skiing since you can just go ahead and ski right through the lower branches without worrying about your head. Don't let it give you a false sense of security though...you can still fuck yourself up plenty bad!

couldn't even imagine generating the stats, but im confident saying skiing without a helmet is just as safe as driving to the mountains

I only use one wen im doing stupid shit in the park, if that...

yes do it. trust me you'll want one considering the fact that if you hit your head when you fall even with a helmet on you can still get a concussion or have internal bleeding. I just recently had to buy a new one cause mine broke but then again i do extreme skiing and i broke mine on a tree.

I board and just started wearing one this season. It's lightweight, comfortable and best of all built in headphones icon_biggrin.gif

I've had a couple of falls where I caught an edge and slammed my head on ice. Thankfully not much to hurt up there, but as I get older definitely rather err on the side of safety.

Heck yeah. Specially it will protect your head when someone lowers the bar in the lift without asking you first.icon_biggrin.gif

I go skiing every year, and haven't worn a helmet. But gosh there have been times when I really wish I had been.

Heeeeeaaaaaaaps of people wear helmets at the ski field, and they're a great idea. Definitely make the investment, your head will thank you.

I've never wore a helmet even when skiing in Alaska this past Feb. I could see where they would be life savers but I've never wore one even after some pretty nasty falls. Guess I'm just lucky.

I always wear a helmet while skiing.
My friend fell last winter and it put a 5" crack from the base of the helmet up. And he still Ended up with a concussion.
It's cheap insurance for the inevitable accident we will have.

Never wear one unless in competition. Have skied over 50 years and the only concussions have been while trying snowboarding.
