Personal Beliefs

  • Feb 02, 2010 10:57 PM GMT
I am here to announce that I personally do not believe in a God. I was raised in a Christian home and I just don't buy into it. I'm atheist, I guess. The problem is I still live at homeicon_mad.gif. Does anybody feel the same way I do?

You believe in what you feel is personally right for you. However that does not equate trying to push those beliefs upon other people something that the religious right wing has a terrible habit of doing.

My grandfather was a right wing Baptist minister. The rest of my family is religious; however, I am a left leaning atheist. An objective look at the logical inferences and scientific facts lead to the conclusion that God almost certainly does not exist.

P.S. I admire your health goals. I lost 98 pounds through diet and exercise myself. Keep on trucking - it can be done!

Oh I think you'll find lots of support on here for your non-belief but your personal belief shouldn't reflect your feelings for your friends, family or other people in general. You have made your decision and it's best to respect those who have chosen differently. You don't have to agree with them and you can very politely agree to disagree. They should respect your decision and you should respect theirs. If they (at home) are insistent about your participation in religious rituals (services/events), then you may have to be assertive about your beliefs (or unbeliefs) but don't be disrespectful, take the high road always.

You will find many, many, many folks who have walked away from false belief systems, especially here.

I was debating filling in "Jedi" on the upcoming census like many people have for the last 3, but then I thought that it would just add to the percentage of those that declare a faith, so I think I'm not. (dang, I really wanted to be a Jedi)

I believe I don't care what you believe as long as you believe what I believe.

Out of a weak will, or fear, or guilt, or habit, a lot of people claim to believe in some sort of god.

I feel that I am strong enough to run my life myself and to take care of myself, and any problems that arise, without praying to something out there somewhere to take care of life's challenges, for me.

It comes down to taking responsibility, yourself.

    I am an atheist.
A god, heaven, hell, etc. are too far out there for me to take seriously.

You are free to believe as you choose. It's called free will However, I do not believe in forcing your beliefs on someone. When that happens, then there will be a problemicon_mad.gif

This is SUCH a controversial topic. Everyone believes to their convenience, whatever rocks their boat and with minimal effort in many cases.

The last thing someone should bitch about is living with their parents. I'm pretty sure they don't bitch about having you with them. Its disrespectful in many ways.

and to be honest, you KNOW what you have to do. Move out.
Its easy... as MY parents say: My House, My Rules. Its all a matter of respect I feel.

    I'll sign that petition.....

You have to be much stronger to walk away from the brainwashing and the pressures of false belief systems. I've NEVER regretted not having blind faith. EVER.

I'm always happy when someone is not a believer. I only wish more wouldn't.

    Good on you!

What is belief? Is believing the same as knowing? Is belief, fact; that is- what is actually happening.
