FINALLY - A new HORROR film heavy on suspense & mood (Very Old-School)

For months now I've been awaiting this movie, THE HOUSE OF THE DEVIL, to arrive on DVD - finally this week it did & DANG - it IS a film worth watching! If any of you into horror (esp the old-school approach to horror that relies on dread, mood, & building suspense) - this film is a must see! Independent but beautifully shot, great sound, brooding/dread building suspense, & as OLD SCHOOL as a Rubix Cube! icon_wink.gif

Some may be put off by its attempt to be old-school approach (editing style, the look of film, the plot) - but for many who appreciate these little things, its a treat (or as one editors reviews stats: "a wet dream for horror fans!").

The lead actress does a incredible job, having most weight of the film on her shoulders.

The tension & build up are as close to classics of: Rosemary's Baby, The Changeling, 1979's When A Stranger Calls, plus many others...

This 'new' horror director, TI WEST, is DEF a new voice in the genre that is to be reckoned with!

    Check out the trailer!

Right on! Yes I remember when BABYSITTER WANTED was making all the Festival 'rounds a couple years ago - but honestly - its goes right into the "torture porn" crap from what I heard.

I want to see it & check it out still however, but honestly - HOTD really nailed it OLD-SCHOOL as far as the editing goes, and that alone is badass.

Who's that? LOL I dont really watch films for 'hot dudes' in it HAHA (that's just me though!)

Yeah I'm unfort. (i guess?) am just over the whole "torture/serial killer/" stuff. Anyone can do that.

But again, I've always been curious to see BabySitter Wanted.

... and im assuming the images of the girl being strung up and bloody is the torture porn reference, thats like the first 5 seconds of the movie not throughout

    Ah ok!

I hear ya. Well, from everything Ive read in my VERY trusty horror magazines (RUE MORGUE, Fangoria, etc) - it has quoted that it becomes a mess of a film, & mentioned the "torture" aspect.

However, I haven't seen it yet so I can't say. But funny enough the other night while I was watching HOUSE OF THE DEVIL, I immediately thought of Babysitter Wanted. So I rummaged through my old RUE MORGUE issues to find the review they put in of it - thats what I read about it. HAHA

sweet, count me in. Suspense is where it's at, anyone can do gore/shock value, cinema... it takes talent to do terror, suspense and real horror. Hope it accomplishes that.

its all good yeah when i saw it too i was like umm did they remake babysitter wanted already haha cuz it starts off exactly the same even the way they find the babysitter wanted add on the college thing,

but hey idunno if ull like it or not i thought it was a pretty fun flick, i just saw Dead Tone or it has another title of 7eventy 5ive it seems like a typical slasher flick but in a way it was different and it was fun and gave me the creeps at some point, just a suggestion from moi

and it has Wil Horneff my future hubby from The Roost in it

Naw, CABIN FEVER 2: SPRING FEVER isn't quite "torture porn" - its just more a SPLATTERFEST of a movie. It does look GROSS though - however its HUMOROUSLY & sickenly "gross" from what I've heard.

IN fact, interestingly enough - TI WEST tried to have his name taken off the credits to Cabin Fever 2 cuz the end result isn't HIS 'edit' , but a completely different "edit" from LIONSGATE. However, cuz he isn't part of the Screen Directors Guild (SDG) , they rejected his request to use the anonymous "ALAN SMITHEE" moniker.

But I too am gonna watch it . He did Cabin Fever 2: Spring Fever way way before THE HOUSE OF THE DEVIL. its just FINALLY being released....

frozen looks like one of those movies that looks cool until u watch it, nothing happens, its just the "horrors" of being stranded on a ski lift
