I occasionally will surf around on Google Earth for fun. and I came across this tonight... Has anyone ever seen the landscape on this part of Russia?! It looks crazy! Like it's some other planet altogether.

http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&geocode=&q=Russia&sll=51.488011,-0.181961&sspn=0.134467,0.22625&ie=UTF8&hq=&hnear=Russian+Federation&ll=68.419899,71.83136&spn=0.317706,0.904999&t=h&z=10

Anyone else know of some cool Googel Earth stuff? I know there's got to be a ton of it out there.

omg that's a scary picture...on a similar note I've researched small tribes in North & East Russia just to see what they look like and how they dress.

It is only terrifying if the Loch Ness Monster is in the pic, and going after someone on the road.

Not sure how to get the url, but if you type in Osirak Reactor, Baghdad Nuclear Research Facility on Google Earth you get the location of a very small US Base south of Baghdad where I got to spend a year of my life. Scary because everyone said it was safe to live next to a bombed out nuclear reactor, Hmmmm.

Ehh, nothing new if you've ever used USGS topo maps or satellite images before.
You do know that they take the pics in 'slices', right? Some days the sun shines 'better' on the earth than others, so when you splice it all together, you get 'fade'.
You can find it all over this blue marble we call Earth.

PS: I can't wait for Google Moon or Google Mars!

PPS: Do you have "Street View" marked? That's a great feature.

You might enjoy these staged scenes some people did in Pittsburgh on Google Streetview.

You should use Google Street view and "walk" through your home town or places you used to live. It's amazing. I once did it from the town I lived in while in grade school and followed the streets that I took to get home every day. It's like you're right there.

LOL, yeah I'm not THAT dumb...I just think the geography of that region is unlike anything I've seen before. I'm curious as to how it was formed.

While searching for a home listed on the MLS service, I did a street view to see what the neighborhood was like and found some poor woman in her driveway, mini-van door wide open and her bent over with her pants-clad "Bertha Butt" to the camera for all the world to see while she picked up a kid to put in the van.

I laughed about it and wondered how she felt with people from all over the world viewing her butt.....

a month later, the pic had changed. Same street, same house. No mini-van, no Bertha Butt view!
I guess someone called Google and chewed major ass! LOL

oh and before you ask about Bertha

Kaaba, Mecca, Saudi Arabia, so white and bright you can see it from a long distance.

I am not sure what material they used to construct it, it surely is white.

Frankly, I've always been mesmerized by the aerial view of this certain part of San Fransisco:

What the hell!? They look like huge tracts of painted asphalt.
