Just curious how many people notice men and women who come to the gym and all they do is yack on their cell phone. Its funny to see people who change up, come out on the workout floor, yack for 40 minutes, and go back and change to go home. It really bugs me when they are taking up a bench and the gym is busy and they give you a dirty look for interrupting them when you need to use it. I understand emergencies or somebody's job might require a call to be taken on the workout floor..but come on!! iphone-at-gym.jpg

I totally agree! i will bring mine just cause you never know... but if a call comes through that isn't necessary, that is what voicemail is for. When a gym is already sometimes tough enough to get a full workout without having to wait for machines or weights... people shouldn't have such a lack of reespect for others there.
In my spin class I have had people answer calls and stuff... I get so bugged by that and then distracted while trying to teach.

If I see someone just yacking on a cell phone and using a piece of gym equipment as their EZ chair, I'll interrupt them and ask how many sets they have left. If they continue to talk on their cell phone, I'll keep interrupting and also point to the line of people waiting.

Some people confuse gym membership as a right to "own" a piece of equipment for the duration that they are there. It's a good idea to educate these people that we all pay membership, and that the equipment must be shared.

If they are yakking while sitting on a piece of equipment, go up and ask to use the equipment.

Always leave my phone in the locker for two reasons:

    1) Don't like my gym time to be interrupted
    2) I will probably loose it pretty easily.

Though a lot of people keep texting throughout their stay in gym, not sure what is so imp everyday and same time of the day.

yesterday our yoga instructor said to someone in the back, "if you have to text, i have to ask you to leave." i was like: YAY! finally, a little common sense and discipline in the yoga studio fer crissakes... sick and tired of them yoga bitches stealing my spot, acting crazy, leaving early and generally ruining my damn vibe -- i'm trying to mellow out jeez!

I keep my cell phone with me at all times. Not because I am attached to it but because it helps me and it costs a lot of money. I actually keep my workout schedule on it and I use it to calculate things like 60% of my max weight and all that stuff. I keep it in my pocket or in front of me as much as possible. One time, with my old phone, the LG Voyager, I dropped a weight and busted the top screen icon_sad.gif Now I am WAY more careful and I think when doing dumbbell exercises lol As for talking, I don't answer my phone in the gym at all

    suck....

if you (anyone) can't be without your cell phone for an hour while you work out, you really need to assess your priorities in life.... leave it in the car!

That's because asian girls are hot- they're so petite and feminine.

I'm always the only one at my gym, so I get all the equipment to myself. icon_smile.gif
....except for the owner that's always bending over and sticking his ass up in the air. icon_neutral.gif

I'm not a fan of it being in the gym either but I can understand why some or rather certain people might have them with on them like maybe a doctor or possibly someone who needs to have it on them at all time for specific reasons. If, however, they are just standing there and do more talking then working out and are basically wasting time and being rather disruptive to other gym folk then clearly they don't need to be at the gym.

And yes, talking on your phone while others are working out is disruptive.

My Iphone goes w/ me to the gym cuz it has all my music on it. I typically send my phone calls straight to voice mail while I'm in the gym but I'm very guilty of texting and facebooking between sets...

I usually bring mine but seldom use it. I NEVER talk on it! Worst I do is send a few txt during breaks if its absolutely necessary.

Its a way of life, might as well get use to it. While I completely agree that if someone's talking on the phone and just sitting on a piece of equipment you have every right to ask to use said equipment, but the gym isn't a library. Its meant to be noisy. That's why they pump the music in. All that said I did notice a guy who was talking on the phone loudly on Sunday night, but it was right after the Super Bowl and no one was in the gym so he wasn't holding anyone up. His volume was annoying, but I just cranked my iPod up to full volume and went about my workout.

And while I do text between sets, I've never taken a call at the gym (or more importantly the locker room - where I think cell phones should be banned!).

I can't STAND people who yak on cell phones while sitting on a piece of equipment or just willy-nilly do their exercise without even trying while chatting. My suggestions are:

    - Purchase and use a Suzanne Somers Thighmaster Blaster while chatting your thighs away.

    - Step AWAY from the equipment and take the call. Do NOT hold it hostage while some poor musclehead has to listen to your drama between you and your partner.

    - Or do as I do. Let it charge in your car while you work out.

The people that carry cell phones and use it in the gym need it reflect on reason they are there...

    I laugh at them...

Maybe it's just me, but when I have my phone with me and need to take a call, I excuse myself and move to an out of the way area to take my call.

There is this guy who's the tall, handsome, lugz wearing guy who's gotta have the white wife beater and button up track pants with nothing on underneath and makes sure EVERYONE knows he's packing cock and balls only in those pants icon_lol.gif also has to wear his bluetooth ear piece lol ends up sitting there and talking for an hour and gets up and wonders while talking to god knows who.

I told him once that if he's not careful he's going to walk into weights one day, he thought that a threat, I wasn't joking cause he walked into the arm of the cable machine just after I told him icon_twisted.gif
