    I have a problem. A big problem.
    I have an outdoors dog so I leave his food outside and the pigeons always fly down and eat it all! Worst of all is that they shit wherever they please! Right now I'm just having fun with them and I recently covered the dog's food with hot sauce to teach them a lesson.
    Do any of you guys know of a successful deterrent? (One that has worked for you)

    Edit: The damn things won't stop sneezing. icon_twisted.gif

    Some buildings put those fake owls on the roofs to scare the pigeons away. I dont know if you can place one of those effectively near the dog food. Or a motion detector hooked up to a flashing light.

    I love those things icon_razz.gif around here they're all covered in pigeons... icon_smile.gif

    try covering the food ? putting it in a cage that the dog can easily access?

    Must be one helluva good dog if he's not just eating the pigeons icon_razz.gif maybe you should take him inside...

    pigions are rats with feathers.

    PETA would disagree, but here it goes:
    If you kill one pigion and hang from a nearby tree it will send a message to the others, they're not welcome.

    Or

    Get one of those big fake owls

    @ANDCB
    My dog would kill the cat in an instance! He's actually already killed 2 dogs twice his size, at least 2 cats, several opossums, and several thousand bees. He's not a bad dog... just an angry one.
    @Carson
    I was thinking about getting an owl statue, but after a while the pigeons just ignore it.
    @Chaos444
    Pigeons are not cute. They are vile creatures that serve no purpose other than to drive me craze! icon_evil.gif
    I've also seem their mating ritual one to many times.......

    In finer restaurants they're called Squab

    fwiw hot sauce, hot peppers etc are no deterrent to birds. They lack the receptors for hot spicy foods and they actually like many of them.

    Sorry, I love animals, but this is a recipe for disaster and reflects more upon you than the dog. Either be a responsible owner, get professional help in addressing his aggression, or put him down.

    People that are proud of their animals vicious behavior are scarier than the animals themselves.

    I'm not owning up to it. Those animals invaded his personal space. His home.
    I believe putting him down would be just as bad... besides... my sister would not allow it. He doesn't do anything to anyone or anything when he's outside (on the street.) He's very gentle to others.... his tail wags uncontrollably.
    Most dogs chase/kill those animal/insects...
    One of the dogs he killed actually belonged to my neighbor's neighbor (his brother) and that dog actually bit the neighbor's son, he wanted it gone, but his brother didn't want to put him down.

    Get a bb gun and go at it. They are filthy birds and carry all kinds of disease. My next door neighbor caught a very bad eye infection from the bird shit. I have my bb gun and have zero pigeon problem!! FUCK YEAH!! ELIMINATION!!!

    Yeah see... I actually have a problem with killing these things... I just want to keep them away.
    That's actually why I did not/do not want to feed them rice... Although I've read that that is actually just an urban myth.

    its not an urban myth the rice expands and kills them that's why its not allowed to throw rice at weddings. why do u have a problem with killing pigeons but not when ur dog kills other dogs and cats?

    Or you can call someone to do for a couple of dollars...

    I suggest you check and see if the pest exterminators can do it, since it seems killing isn't an option.

    I also suggest some sort of sound gun. On air fields we use BASH CANNONS which emit a loud sonic blast to birds who gather and sit on the flightline and can damage aircraft. Something to also think about

    I retract my original statement. After reading this sad amalgamation of faulty logic, misinformation and extreme rationalization, maybe it's you who should be put down.
