I am curious about the Real Jock man of the day. How are these people decided upon, and why is it that they are chosen?

So I guess what my real question is do you feel you should be elected the man of the day, and why? If not, who would you elect man of the day?

I was MOD (Man of the Day) about two or three weeks ago, and it was no more than a few days after I had joined. I had only two or three pics up and nothing in my profile, so I have to imagine that it is a fairly random process.

Of course, as soon as I saw I was MOD, I went into a blind panic and threw a whole bunch of stuff onto my profile so people wouldn't be too disappointed if they clicked over to my page. I also did my best to answer every email I got that day and the several days after. It was kinda fun icon_smile.gif

I was picked, too, some time ago - and discovered that the process wasn't entirely random. I don't know what the moderators do to kick it off, but I understand that if you have posted to the forums, they look at a couple of the posts. I don't know whether this is actually part of the selection process, though.

Certainly it's not on any obvious criteria... I can think of several hundred guys who would pop up on most lists long before I would - just see my hotlist!

I've yet to be picked... It depresses me to no end. icon_cry.gif

I think I'll take a personal day from work tomorrow...

From what I can remember, you were Man of the Day at one point during these last few weeks icon_biggrin.gif

I have no idea how they pick them. I was MOD at one point. ::shrugs:: It gets you hotlisted, and a bunch of emails about nothing from people across the country (or the ocean).

I always send a congratulatory message to the man of the day. I've never been anything of the anything, but I remain quietly hopeful

I dont know what you have to do to be MOD. I was only MOW once....an honor you have to dig for to find and I only discovered by accident...or it could have passed me by and I never would of known it. It pleased my ego, but seems like an odd way to distinguish somebody.

MOW I have not seen that one.

I guess i think the whole thing is a cool idea and a nice honor, but there should be some criteria. We should know if this MOD did something out of the norm, or if he is just chosen because he is hot, or if he got the most clicks the day before, or if it is completely random, etc. I would hope there is a reason.

Would it even be beneficial to have a little blurb from the powers that be, on why each one is chosen if the criteria are not consistent?

I MISSED IT!?!? Dang it. I was going to call my grandma and let her know when the big day happened. The combined shock of knowing the internets exist and that I am on them with my shirt off would send her palpitations into a free-for-all.

I remember well when you were MOTD. I printed out thousands of copies of your picture and plastered them all over my basement. I even papered the hot water heater with them, because I think you're steaming hot. I have a little table down there that I covered with a pristine white linen cloth. There are candles burning there and in the center of them all is a copy of the RJ front page on the day you were MOTD. Wanna have lunch?

Man of the Week shows up in your weekly emails from RJ.

Dunno what you have to do to be one, besides get noticed by the mods (forums seems to help). But then, I can't figure out how they pick the thread of the week either.

I wonder how randon it is, as I have seen people featured more than once. Also I wonder how they pick the people who are featured in the "now online section" Perhaps the same people are always on, but it seems like the same faces are featured.

Actually, Man of the Week has explanatory text. So someone made a studied choice for that. I was MOW back in the Spring and didn't figure it out until I had looked at the link that shows who has looked at your profile. Damn...at first I was flattered until I figured out that guys were simply clicking on the MOW link... icon_razz.gif

I have yet to see a "no pic" person got pick as man of the day. So to say it's random, how random is it that only good looking topless guy get picked?

That would be fun to be MOD or MOW. So no one knows how to become one? Not even the people who have already been picked? We demand answersicon_exclaim.gif

I was MOD not long after I joined the site. I hadn't really contributed to any forums yet or developed my profile very much. Because of that, I assumed it was a random thing. I was curious about how people get picked for it.

I don't ever notice MOW because I don't ever think to look through the email from Realjock. That is the one I'd like to be more aware of though since it seems to have some reasoning behind it.

    Hi there.

Jeff from RJ here. Here's the general criteria for MOD:

    MUSTS
    1. Verified profile
    2. Don't have your profile hidden from public view
    3. Have your main pic be a face pic
    4. Have multiple pics

    OTHER THINGS WE LOOK AT:
    1. Have something interesting written in your profile
    2. Contribute to forums (in a good way...)
    3. Have some mutual buddies.
    4. Be inspirational. We like featuring guys who have accomplished big things like losing a lot of weight or participating in a sport, being really active in your 50s and 60s, etc.

Of course, with the "musts" it limits the pool rather quickly, so sometimes you get members who don't meet all of the other criteria.

For Man of the Week, we can also feature guys who have their profile hidden from public view by non-logged-in members. For Man of the Week, we try to find guys with the most inspirational profiles.

It's far from a perfect process of course, but there you have it. And of course, we're always open for other options (small overworked staff = us).

They should send out a notification email to let you know at least when you are selected. There's already like 2 or 3 above RJers who've said they were selected but found out much later.

It's still a pleasure, I'm sure, but it would be nice to know when you're featured.

I was MOD the day after I uploaded a bunch of pictures and added to my profile a month or so back. I'm not sure what selection criteria they have, because I never actually noticed there even was a MOD. Yes, I'm that oblivious sometimes. icon_redface.gif

It took a death threat from sickofthesame to realize what had happened. icon_lol.gif

Edit: oops. Too slow. Looks like selection criteria are up now. Yay!

It's nice to hear what the selection criteria are. I was MOD a while back and wouldn't have known if an RJ member hadn't alerted me to the fact (thanks Sahem!). Sadly, it did not result in much hotlisting or e-mails. Poor me. icon_redface.gif

It would be nice for members to get an e-mail when they are selected as man of the day.
