Interesting. I'd like to be a doting uncle to my brother's kids, but my sister-in-law hates me, so I don;t see it happening.

    I love being an uncle
I'm also an "uncle" to my best friend's kids and I couldn't love them any more if they were my own, so personally the idea of altruistic nurturing of a family member as a means of proliferating the family gene pool seems illogical to me. The research referenced in that link doesn't address any degree of familial responsibility or accountability strictly as a social function.

It doesn't even mention the most obvious reason which could be nurturing towards nieces and nephews occurs because they are family and we grow to love them.

Gay Uncles here. Last summer when we got married my sister and her hub made us legal guardians of her kids, and godparents.

    lol, Fairy Godfathers, indeed.

For those interested, I get into arguing the evolutionary science over on another thread about this on RealJock.

I have 4, two more coming (twins!). I love them to death, I give them everything because they give me so much love.

I would give anything to have them for extended time. We have weekends together already. I take them for a day or two.

I can't get enough, I want so much more. They call me at least once a week, they send cards, I love it all.

I really wish I could buy them all the world.

My older brother and his wife had a daughter last year and everyone has been surprised by how attached I got to her. I kinda hoped noone had noticed but I guess three trips from SC to NYC in six months gave it away. icon_redface.gif

My brother and father agree with me that we want her to be a lesbian so that no boy will ever touch her.
