Colin Firth has been nominated for his portrayal of George in Tom Ford's a Single Man
The Only Homosexual Character Colin is up against
George Clooney - Up In The Air
    Jeff Bridges - Crazy Heart
    Morgan Freeman - Invictus
    Jeremy Renner - Hurt Locker

If you guys have seen it
Do you think he might win?

The only competition I think he has is with Jeff Bridges
I've seen all these movies and by far the Best was Colin's performance

I do, too, I've admired his work for years. But this might be Jeff Bridges' "year" regardless of the relative merits of their performances. I suspect Bridges has the sympathy of the Academy voters, who want him to finally win.

What happened to him in this movie is one of my worst fears. My bf's family is unaccepting of his sexuality, and if something happened to him, half of them would not want me at the funeral. I hope he wins.

My late partner had the horrible experience of being barred from participating in his previous partner's funeral by the family. Yet when my partner himself subsequently died, I was in charge, because I had made the appropriate legal arrangements.

While he remains merely your BF, and until binding legal documents are drawn that place you in charge, and for him on your behalf, you may face this possibility. But frankly, the same problem exists for a straight unmarried couple, if the family of the deceased want to be jerks.

So talk it over with him, decide if you'd like to have mutual legal protections. Perhaps there's even some legal instrument where he can stipulate that you must attend his funeral, even if you aren't the Personal Representative (aka Executor) of his estate and responsible for the final arrangements. These things vary by state jurisdiction, and you're in DC, so see if you can get a free initial consultation with an attorney there.
