    Hi guys,

We've recently been working on a bunch of changes to make the pages on the site load faster and I was hoping to get some feedback from guys in countries other than the U.S. about whether or not you've noticed any improvement. In addition, I was hoping you could point out any parts of the site that remain slow or consistently difficult to use. For example, I know that the chat and IM are ok in the U.S. but don't have a good feel for how they perform in other countries.

    Thanks for your help,

    Chris

Hey Chris, the pages are loading somewhat faster, but still takes longer than any other site I go to.

When reading topics, somtimes the last post remains invisible unless I make a post after it (usually I do this by just posting an exclamation mark). Then the last poster appears just above mine. I then delete my exclamation mark post.

    -Doug

PS this sometimes happens with my own posts. I hit submit, and when the topic refreshes there's no post. If I leave the topic and look at the forums it shows I did post. So then I go back and post again with just an exclamation mark and bang, there's my original post just before it.

the IM works fine most of the time (Chile, UK, Holland). Chat has done in the past at least (though i´ve not been there a lot recently).

Twice in the last few weeks I´ve been locked out for short periods, but that might be because there was maintenance going on... it sorted out fast.

I´ve not noticed anything odd in either the UK or continental europe or any difference between service in latin America, USA and Europe.

Doug- What parts of the site are slow? Is it all the images loading or is it the initial response? Sorry for the detailed questions, I just want to pinpoint the specific pieces of the page that are causing the bad user experience.

Lostboy - We did do some maintenance in the last couple of weeks. We upgraded some servers and had to take the site offline for brief periods of time. Sorry for the outages.

Thanks again for your help guys.

It has been terrible when I am in Nepal and Cambodia, but even Google loads slow in those places.

When the homepage loads before logging in, usually. Erratically when going from topic to topic, or page to page in a topic.

Occasionally when I want to post, the reply button disappears when I go to click on it. This requires me to move the mouse's arrow back and forth a few times til there's a delay in the reply button vanishing. My wrist is very very fit, lol!

The "BACK TO TOP" button wasn't working for about a week - but then it seems to be alright again.

Say Chris, perhaps you could clear something up. Both Caslon and Wrestlervic have started topics where they don't have pics of 'who viewed me' showing on the right side of the home page. Instead I think they get of pics for MOTD contenders.

I just posted on Wrestlervic's topic because I get the same thing BEFORE I log in, which makes sense to me because until I log in the site doesn't know who I am. Is that right?

    Doug,

The who viewed me on the home page is something we recently made changes to in an effort to speed things up. The way it was previously done was very slow. Having said that, I just looked into this and I'm sure there's a problem with it. It doesn't seem to be updating properly for everyone. This is most likely the issue with Caslon and Wrestlervic. If the list doesn't update and as a result gets too short, then the system automatically removes it from the home page. I'll investigate and hopefully have this taken care of soon.

I'm also confident I can fix the "disappearing button" problem for you soon.

The "disappearing post" issue is a bit of a mystery but I'll look into that as well.

lol, Thanks chris! The disappearing post trick is being experienced, I think, by a few others as well (re: Steamy's post)

    Doug,

I found the problem with the who viewed me on the home page and fixed it. You can tell Caslon and Wrestlervic that it should start working for them again. Please send me a message if someone mentions that they're still having problems.

    Thanks,

    Chris

The only place I've noticed delays here in Germany is IM, and even that picked up quickly

I'm having the same problem that I only have man of the day contenders and not who visited me.

    Hi guys,

Does the home page look ok? It should show who viewed you now.

    Thanks,

    Chris

I went on vacation a month ago around Asia, RJ was working fine, and when I got back to China almost nothing works. I can't post (normally), look at pictures, delete mail messages, search for anything, add/delete pictures, and tons of other things. I can just see text, and respond to messages, and that's it. I can only post this now because I'm using a friend's VPN, which is based out of Canada.

I don't know if it's China's higher restrictions on the site that make it not work of if it's problems with the changes that were made, but I don't think anyone in China is having much luck using the site right now without a little VPN action. Even proxies don't fix all the problems.

RJ is like my crack, which is the only reason I care, but Facebook being banned here didn't even tempt me to get a VPN, but RJ not working? I was reading to shell out the dough, believe me.

the mail system, once you've sent someone a mail (pm, message, whatever) and your waiting for that notification to come up, that can be incredibly slow for me, on the order of 40 seconds sometimes.

However the forums are running along much faster.
