basically i'm interested in Alex Harvey in XC skiing. He won't win any medals but to be on the team while still really young is awesome already. He's got talent.

then i'll see what Eric Guay will do in downhill skiing , JJ Anderson in snowboard
    Clara Hughes of course.
    and that's about it.
ah, well i forgot to mention hockey. It will HAVE to be a Canada -Russia final !

I watched the opening ceremonies. Some of the best, if not the best I've seen a long time. I will be watching mainly the speed skating, ice skating and the bobsled along with the closing ceremonies. Sad about the death of the Georgian luger.

I really enjoyed it, and found myself tearing up. I especially liked the Youtube poet. He said something that I believe, about Canada being the experiment that goes right (paraphrasing). Health care, gay marriage, etc.

Anyways, I liked the opening event. I bet a lot of people in the U.S. watched it since much of the country is under snow and it feels like we are a part of it for that reason alone.

If only they could have shipped 2 inches of snow overnight to Canada. That would have shown off Fedex's capabilities! icon_lol.gif

It was good. I liked the way the ceremony showed off the history of my country, along with honouring the French side of the country too. The presentation gave a nice representation of the land Canada is, its diversity and what us Canadian citizens get to experience without needing a passport...haha.

The tens of thousands of fans outside cheering as Gretzky made his way to the outdoor Olympic cauldron to light with his Olympic torch showed respect to him as well as the passion for sports. Having no riots kind of helped keep Vancouver a friendly and safe city as well. HAHA.

There is one thing that I didn't see represented visually of what Canada is today. A very multi-cultural country! It's not just natives! But I believe with the massive amount of media here, that part will be shown. In between Olympic events will be spots on Vancouver life which I think is a pretty accurate representation of all major cities in Canada. Did they mention there's a healthy population of gays here? icon_twisted.gif

Loved it! I had to watch parts of it after the fact since I was at work when it was on. But I could see tons of people running down the street when Gretzky was coming down the street with the torch to light the outdoor cauldron. I'm looking forward to the next couple weeks as the world comes to my hometown icon_smile.gif

I spoke too soon. icon_eek.gif Some bad PR with protestors against Olympics. They demonstrated their ability to smash windows to the main retailer of the Olympic games and spray-paint cars/buses.

Time for our law enforcement to show what they can demonstrate now! icon_wink.gif

I'm all for protesting, we live in a country where you can do that. But what they were doing yesterday was just criminal activity and just drowned out any message they were trying to convey.

I'm competing in the olympic sport of "Living in a city with an Olympics Games."

Those who make it through and fully participate (i.e., work, live in the city, etc.) without losing any, if not all, mental capacity, wins a medal or honourable mention.

i like to watch the skiing and snowboard sports. I particularly like super-pipe snowboard - Shawn White. I also enjoy all of the alpine skiing events including the mogul and jump competition. i'm watching more of the luge too. so sad about the tragic death.

hope the f-ed up weather will get better.

The focus on 1st Nations was to show where Canada began. While I agree with the sentiment, it was a bit heavy on the content side.

I will be at hockey and curling next week! Go CANADA!

Cheers to our first GOLD medal at home tonight!

Hey Curiousjock, we wish you were, too!

COOL! Canada women's hockey team scored big against Slovakia. 18-0!

    Mercy rule! Game ended.
