The Rev Wiley Drake and the ever lovin' flock of the First Southern Baptist Church of Buena Park in Buena Park, California prayed for John Murtha's death.
Through the use of imprecatory prayer
Imprecatory prayer is prayer asking God to kill, maim, curse, send into eternal damnation, or otherwise harm an enemy. In the United States imprecatory prayer is most often invoked by both sides before an important football game.
Drake has called for the deaths of Murtha and for Barack Obama
because they go against the teachings of god

So much for the live and let live
    turn the other cheek
    do onto others
Teachings of someone I dunno named J-E-S-U-S?

I don't really see this item's significance... it's not like they did anything that impacted anything, and it's not like we didn't already know these people are insane.

His death was unexpected. Maybe their prayers were answered.

These idiots are doing it all wrong. Claiming responsibility after the fact will convince nobody of the power of their prayers and just put them on the same level as Pat Robertson.

They should get into the habit of publishing each week for who's death they are praying right now. Then everybody could see the fervor of their christian beliefs and the power of their god.

His death was expected. He had gall bladder cancer.
Murtha was killed by cancer, like many, many people have been and will be. Their prayers had nothing to do with it.

This is a pefect example of the way the religious right has perverted the teachings of Jesus Christ into something that is wholly UN-Christian.
They seem to care more about the Republican party, than what's right or wrong, or what Jesus would've done.
    Despicable.

The thing I like about this is it always works. If I pray for the death of my enemies, sooner or later, G-d is going to do as I have asked. How fuckin sweet is that?

I think even most right wing Republicans think the Rev Wiley Drake and the First Southern Baptist Church of Buena Park are nut jobs. As a Christian I do not identify with their teachings, nor do my conservative Republican friends .

I know I've this before, but, this is yet another classic example of how very weak the mind of man can be, even after all these years, and how very dangerous false belief systems are to civilization.

It's SO IMPORTANT to work against them.

    Oh for crying out loud!

What's the issue - many don't believe a god exists. You are one with false belief systems. So what's the issue? Even if he had died due to their prayers you don't believe it any how... so it's all moot don't you think?

southbeach1500 saidAre so many of you "horrified" because:

    a) These people wished someone dead

    or

    b) These people believed in the power of prayer

    or

    c) Both of the above.

Think carefully before you answer, as many on here openly hoped for the death of Rush Limbaugh during his recent health scare... (having said that, I suspect most of you will answer 'b')

That fat fuck should have died!

Wow, I can't believe anyone can call themselves a real 'Christian' after praying death or harm on anyone. We're not the FINAL judge, so we shouldn't judge anyone... LOVE EVERYONE and have a compassionate heart.

It just really bums me out when I hear about things like this. I still have my faith, but definitely dont necessarily agree with the other 'Christians'

    :-)

Oh I don't imagine or care that they think that they had anything to do with his death
.... It's just the AUDACITY of them thinking these evil thoughts aloud

Southbeach, you got lambasted because of your tendency to grossly over-simplify issues. These choices you presented completely missed the point of the topic.

We're horrified because they perverted a faith to a)wish someone dead with b) belief in the power of prayer and presented themselves as representing (by being a church) christians.

they call themselves "christians" the bible calls them "children of the devil" icon_twisted.gif
1 John 3:10 This is how we know who the children of God are and who the children of the devil are: Anyone who does not do what is right is not a child of God; nor is anyone who does not love his brother.

    southbeach,

The Rush Limbaugh incident has already been discussed in a thread devoted to it. The topic at hand is Rev Wiley Drake and some of his followers. Without skirting around the issue, would you like to tell us what you feel about Mr. Drake and his prayer for Murtha's and Obama's demise?

Why did you have to include a personal insult? What is wrong with you that you always have to insult me?

It's a dirty job but someone has to do it.

Oh please now you play the victom. I for one have endured years of your personal attack. The minute I touched a topic you did not like out comes you with personal attacks! The minute I seemed to side with the right out comes you with your hateful vile and venom; more personal attacks.

The last personal attack from you was, attacking the two men who have loved me over the past 20 years. Just because the only person you could get into a relationship with was an arranged marrage, and then she too jumped you for another women.

You are one of the last people here to have a right to bitch about receiving personal attacks. Is it all the rejection you have received in your life that has made you so bitter?

Talk about the pot calling the kettle black.
