There's been gay guys before on the Real World but I don't think there's been one as thoughtful and reflective as Mike.

    http://www.queerty.com/the-one-where-we-truly-fall-in-love-with-real-world-dcs-mike-and-his-mother-20100218/

The first vid he comes out to his mother... and even though he's bisexual (whatever definition whatever)

I went "awww" watching it all.

    What does everyone else think?

Danny from New Orleans will always be at the top for 'Real World' coming out stories.

Add to the fact that his then boyfriend, Paul, was serving in the military.

I had more respect for his mother's reaction than his bravery for coming out. It was very touching when she said she was only mad at him because he was reluctant to share what he was going through... the world would be an easier place to live if all parents were as supportive and loving as her.

Coincidentally there was an article today about how he is a bisexual and all the gays need to come and accept that.

It was either gawker, towerload, or dlisted

I laughed...I cried...I saved it on my DVR.

I wish I had his guts at his age.

I'm thinking he's "gay" and not very "bi" ("I'm preferring men, lately.", he says.), but, time will tell.

It's good that he's blazing the way for all the folks who are paralyzed by self-inflicted fear, self-loathing, and false belief systems.

Clearly, he's also enjoying the resultant celebrity, and even capitalizing on it, as well.

It was really neat how his mother supprted him, brought a tear to his eye! He is a thoughtful worthy young man, one of the saner ones in the house.
Did anyone else notice his brother?

Ok IMHO Mike is a douche I mean at first I thought he was cute, nice, and cuddly but that only goes so far.

The reason i think he's a bit of a douche: He has a total great guy in front of him in DC Eric. Eric is hott, masculine yet sensitive, genuine and wants something real. Mike totally plays with Eric's heart by asking him if he'd care if Mike would kiss a girl uhh... Yea Mike if your bi and think your "attracted" to girls, kissing a girl is wrong.

All i'm saying is Mike if you dont want something serious you should of told Eric from the start because he obviously was head over heels for you. Honestly I think I'm jealous of Mike he went from a city with few guys for him to a city of guys all over him and when he meets a great prospect he takes it for granted.

    Yeah, favourite episode so far.
I glad he finally had the courage to accept himself and the support he got from his mother had me welling up a tiny little bit..
    I like Mike. Great episode

sidenotes: I noticed that cute little brother he's got.. and i want to see this Tanner boy who's been basically a mythical creature so far.. talked about like he's amazing but never seen before..

I haven't been watching the show but after seeing that clip I think I will. The show seems to have all the fun of a trash MTV show but with actual good messages as well...and if not then it's a trashy MTV show with a hot gay guy so win-win icon_smile.gif

mike is pretty awesome.... and really cute, and yes I did notice his brother..... holy shit.

It seems like he's more into guys but can still get off with girls and finds them alluring. I think when it comes down to it he's most likely gonna settle down with a guy and its a homosexual relationship he's gonna be fulfilled in. I say that because if he were happy with the thought of getting married to a woman and all that jazz he prbly woulda never came out. that and he was talking to his mom about the prospect of getting married to a guy.

He may be into both sexes, but when it comes to marriage and ltrs he's gotta choose and it seems like he has, even though he might not admit it.

That would probably explain why it doesn't seem like big to him if he makes out or has sex with women.... his isn't emotionally affected by it at all.

And he was def kissing callie to show off to his bro.

As far as his mom goes, she's an absolute rockstar. if more parents were like this this world would be an amazing place

So im not a very emotional person, but that lunch scene was a tear jerker. Theres nothing like a parents acceptance to make a kid feel like he's ontop of the world.

I didn't actually see this episode but Pedro from the Real World San Francisco really helped me when I was coming out. That one sticks with me the most. In particular, the relationship that he and his partner had was really inspiring.

I think Mike was out before the show. Just never openly talked about it that much.

When I first watched a few episodes of the show I kinda knew this guy was not bisexual. The black guy on the show really turned me off so I stopped watching. But when I saw this guy Mike I knew this guy was a very intelligent guy who was very in touch with his feeilings and when he spoke he had alot of insight.

This little clip from the show brought tears to my eyes, I am so happy his mom was so accepting, and he shared it to his brothers and sisters. I think every gay kid wishes that their experience in coming out could be as great as this experience. Mine was almost as good as Mike's experience but I waited way too long at the age of 37. My dad ( who just passed away this year) made me feel the best when i came out to them. He said " Bobby dont ever make anyone make you feel less of a person, always be proud of yourself"

Mike you are one lucky guy.

    The Mom's pretty cool.

"Well I still want grandchildren, so they better change some freakin' laws."
