I watched this tonight. I can't say I was a huge fan of figure skating, but Lysacek absolutely blew my mind! I even watched the replay a couple of hours later!

Totally deserved, in my opinion! Congratulations!

It was great to see Lysacek win the gold because he truly he earned it, but Plushenko did an amazing job too. Both performances were Gold medal worthy.

I turned the Olympics on in the middle of Lysacek's routine. I do like figure skating, mostly because the men's bodies are just hot and so many of the figure skaters are gay. It was a fabulous skate with nary an error.

It was a battle of styles and I am glad Lysacek won. I accept that Plushenko racks up the technical points under judging system, but all he does is wander around the ice between spins (which aren't that great) and jumping passes. Evan's entire performance was seamless progression of technical and artistic elements. He didn't bank everything on jumps, but gave full attention to every minute detail right down to the footwork.

I don't know about what your coverage was like, but the commentators were pretty spot on. When Lysacek found out he had won gold, after Plushenko's skate they said, "The skate of the night has won the gold medal". I reckon they hit the nail on the head with that comment.

Plushenko may have had the technical advantage (i don't know, I'm not an expert... I'm going on what the commentators said... icon_redface.gif) but in my opinion Lysacek was so much more interesting to watch! And he really skated to the music, as opposed to the music being background. It was artistry!

agree that plushenko didn't deserve the gold. and lysacek did indeed skate beautifully. but i just wanted that glittery unicorn johnny weir up on the podium too. he nailed the artistry and emotional impact. not to mention skating technically very very well aside from a small bobble. and evan needed to have points deducted for that costume. rhinestone snakes vera wang? really? really vera?

Perhaps it's just me, but I thought the Swiss guy (Stephane Lambiel) skated way better than Wier. Apart from a slip on the quad early on, he was really good.

Haha, can you deduct points for costume? I didn't think it was that bad!

Bitch please. Even all 98 flaming pounds of Johnny Weir is more athletic than any of us will be in our lifetimes. He could probably kick your ass and sashay away without so much as breaking a sweat. All while fabulous and rocking the tassel.

What's with this stereotype that the pro figure skaters and dancers are somehow faggy and lesser men? Meanwhile they're probably all faster, stronger, healthier, more disciplined, determined than almost all men on this site. Wouldn't that make them considerably more masculine? Lysacek's strength from his core and legs was unbelievable. The amount of force it took to generate those leaps, then to land them, he barely wavered, it was completely smooth.
