It appears that there is definitely disagreement within the ranks of the heads of the military as the head of the Army has serious reservations about repealing DADT. This is definitely going to be a long process to get this done, not something that will happen anytime soon.

The humorous thing is that a lot of these conservatives are so quick to look at what *hasn't* worked over in Europe, that when we try to bring something from them that has been proven to be effective they turn a blind eye.

I also want a list of any Democrat who votes down Libermans bill. Then it'd be nice of the 'gay community' held them accountable for those votes.

    But hell... that'll never happen.

Exactly! Like the job one might have in the armed forces that can be taken away for being discovered you are a homosexual!

Another Important Repeal has taken place.

Until today, women have not been able to serve on submarines.

The US Navy has lifted that ban and rejected the idea that FEAR OF SEXUAL ATTRACTION SHOULD PRECLUDE SOMEONE FROM MILITARY SERVICE.

DADT is getting harder and harder to justify.

The ignorance of these speed bumps is that they said the same thing in the late '90s during peacetime. Now they want to shield their stubbornness on the repeal behind two wars!! Ignorance is incoherent.

While some should be concentrating on grammar and spelling. The economy and jobs present a bigger challenge when those two challenges haven't been met.

Dump the head of the army. Truman didnt have a problem during a war. Firing this guy would be just the ticket to show that Obama is serious.

But I wouldnt be surprised if the Dems arent behind it in order to give them cover for not doing anything.

Anything can be done if O wants to do it. If it isnt done, it's his fault.

    Pure, plain, and simple!

Reminds me of the argument that radical right Christian fundamentalist homophobic zealots make when a bill extending the right to marry to same-sex couples is introduced into a state legislature.

DADT could be demolished with the stroke of President Obama's pen. His idiot, frat boy predecessor (W), did a lot of work to establish the principle of the 'Unitary Presidency', a doctrine which essentially says that, in times of war, the President has unlimited power to unilaterally dictate any policy which might affect the conduct of the war. W used it to justify torture, war crimes, and illegal spying on Americans. Just once it would be nice to see a president make an assertion of the office's power for a cause that is good and just.

On this one, Obama can not credibly blame obstructionist Republicans. He is being stopped only his timidity and unwillingness to take stands when it matters. In a word, I am afraid and horribly disappointed to see that we again have a spineless coward in the Oval Office. (That is, however, better than having an idiotic, criminal, spineless coward - as we did from January 2001 until January 2009.)

Exactly, in 1948 almost all the officers in the armed forces were southerners who could come up with a million reasons why a black military person was unacceptable. The head of the army, marines, air force all testified before Congress that it was just couldn't be implimented, but it happened. Truman kept after them until it did happen.

Seven years later it was complete and today no one would even thing it ever was a discussion. Obama is such a disappointment - lots of talk, no action.

The economy was failing and jobs were disappearing during the '08 campaign and Obama still found time to aggressively solicit the votes of the gay community. He received a majority of the gay votes and a lot of gay cash was given to his campaign. I don't think there is anything wrong with asking that he makes good on some of the promises that were made.

Senator Ben Nelson is a key swing vote on the committee where the bill currently is sitting.

If you live in Nebraska, or know someone who does, have them call Senator Ben Nelson's office (402-391-3411) to get him to support Senate Bill #3065. This is the legislation that will repeal Don't Ask, Don't Tell. When you/they call, you must leave your name and full address. icon_biggrin.gif

HRC has been in Nebraska the past few weeks actively helping to get this passed. I volunteered last week with phonebanking ie calling people and having them call Sen, Nelson's office, and will again this week icon_biggrin.gif
