When you guys run or bike, what are you thinking of?

Men, other cyclist, music, problems in your life, success in your life, what you are going to have for dinner, etc...???

When I'm running it's usually something like, "I hope that driver sees me" or "please don't fall, please don't fall, please don't fall" (I'm not the most graceful person and really wiped out a few months ago).

I spend way too much time in my head, so I try to practice clearing it when I run. I focus on breathing, listening to my ipod, or paying attention to how my body feels.

If I can't clear my head, I focus on a problem I'm trying to solve....and if that doesn't work I check out the guys especially if they are shirtless.

    I'm really self-conscious. I'm usually thinking:

"Oh god PLEASE don't look at me, I'm invisible I'm invisible I'm invisible!"

you'd think I was some whale running nude in a crowd based on how stressed I am in my head. Though after the first mile I usually calm down and I'm focused on my music and general thoughts of life. When I'm indoors, it's usually just focusing on not tripping and busting my teeth on the front of the machine.

    anything and everything.

cardio is my happy place. all of life's problems seem to be pounded into the pavement/pedals/what have you and stay there while i'm left with the it-hurts-so-good burn, a thumping tempo, and all the positive thoughts in my head.

when i mountain bike, i'm pretty brain dead ... picking out lines , body motion,
gear selection, brake feathering all happen together while my critical ,normally interfering mind is kind of staying out of the way.
I'm just aware of what i do.
unless i goof of course .. teehee.

while running i focus on my technique, or i hear music in my mind.
i randomly go running or biking with my mp3 ( but never use it if i'm on the road ).

I sink in to myself . I do my best thinking when I am in that zone .

When I'm at the gym, I do everything I can to distract myself from what I am doing, especially if I am doing intervals and my minute sprint. I find watching Cash Cab on one of the TVs helps.

When I run or ride my bike, I sing songs to myself (sometimes in my head or even aloud if nobody's around). Even when I lift and swim laps - same thing. I'm in a happy mood at those times - and I might even be guilty of admiring myself in a mirror as I work out.

When I run, or bike, or ski (x-c) usually spend the first ten or fifteen minutes noticing all the aches associated with warming up. Then I go blank: while I know all my routes, I suddenly "wake up" at times and wonder how I got here so fast. Or I start solving problems - how to make something work better, how to fix something - and the same effect happens.

When I ski, I often shift from la-la land to technique issues.

But the time sure whips by!

Look at all these attempts at sucking your mind dry of all it's thoughts!

When I'm running I'm thinking about all the things that I can't control and it gives me enough anxiety to push me to raise speed and incline on the thread mill more and more each time. Love it! icon_twisted.gif
