Has anyone dealt with a Toshiba Satelite M505 and had webcam issues??? Whenever I turn on the webcam it displays a bunch of "hearts". Any suggestions on how to correct this so the webcam works?

ahh, ya...it's a common problem. It's because you're so hot and your webcam has fallen in love with you.

it also seems to be the jealous type because it won't let you cam with anyone.

you may have to start seeing other computers.

umm, ya...I don't have any real advice. sorry

Does the video work but you get hearts overlaid on top of the video, or is video not working at all? Does the webcam work when not connected to the internet?

The cam for some reason works here on RJ but not on Skype or Messenger.
It shows that the cams is on (green light) but the picture displays "hearts".

That's bizarre - this site uses flash I think so it's not running the same software as Skype and MSN. But both Skype and MSN have decent diagnostic tools but if the problem is with both of them, I suspect it's your software for the webcam that Skype/MSN are using in order to access the webcam.

But first - check to see if you have the latest drivers/software:
    http://www.csd.toshiba.com/cgi-bin/tais/support/jsp/home.jsp?nav=Download

(I think that should work but I am in Canada right now so don't know if that routes to a different server)

Then check the diagnostic tools - I prefer MSN's - it's under tools, then audio/video setup. Sometimes it's trying to pull an input from another source so it's not configured properly. This can happen when you install new software.

I recently got a new laptop and reinstalled windows so my webcam didn't start working until today after I updated and installed the dell drivers. But it's also happened often to me that the sound would screw up because I sometimes use a headset for skype and it would attempt to use the laptop mic versus the headset mic

Addendum - run virus checkers first to make sure your computer is er clean - at least your hard drive is anyway. Use whatever virus checker you have then try this one to see if there's malware: http://www.malwarebytes.org/. Then disable your virus checker/filter then run ComboFix http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/combofix/how-to-use-combofix.

Found the problem, lol, had the same issue! Ok you know the software that the laptop has preinstalled? The little side menu that comes out on the left of the screen when you hover over it? Go there, then to effect. A menu pops up, and there are 3 tabs, click on screen cover, and turn it off. Hope it helps!
