Como vai?

So, I started capoeira last year and I'm making massive gains in my flexibility and coordination, but have some questions for everyone.

1) Do you supplement your classes with training at the gym? How about cross-training into other martial arts? I try to hit the gym three times a week after classes and cross train with kung fu.

2) Have any of you entered any competitions/tournaments? Any tips? I'm looking at entering the US Open if they have it this year; if not, I'm going to find another tournament and want to know what I should be expecting.

3) Any lessons you'd all like to share that you've learned along the way?
