I've seen this guy in the locker room more than once, sitting down on a locker room bench injecting a needle into his leg. No one else really noticed (or acted like they did) and he was discreet I guess. But is this right? It didnt look like insulin or anything and it was being injected into his quad.

Also, if it was steroids, wouldn't he be super ripped/muscular?! This guy was average on his best day... :-(

    Tell me your thoughts! :-)

Could have been a lot of things. Maybe he has relapsing/remitting MS and takes one of the maintenance drugs. I suppose it could depend on the atmosphere of your gym, but I doubt he would be using something illegal out in the open.

I highly doubt that if it was something illegal he would be doing it in the open, where someone might ask questions or talk to a gym manager. I would let it go since its not really affecting you, but if it really bothers you then just let the manager know what you saw.

Yeah, the needle was long, and injected all the way into the inside of his leg. I doubt that he is diabetic as I'm familiar with what insulin syringes look like....And even though he did it out in the open, it looked very illegal. I talked to the gym manager/member services and she said that there was nothing that they could do unless they caught him in the act. Makes sense I guess.... icon_confused.gif

    Umm I guess steroids.

Steroids aren't a magic pill. People who are really huge on steroids worked hard to get there. Steroids really help but it does nothing without commitment.

My guess is testosterone cypionate or similar. A guy using it won't necessarily be super ripped. That would improve his endurance and workout intensity. It all depends on his routine, diet and other factors.

Kinda odd he put it in his thigh. The butt is an all around better place and is more comfortable if you get a knot at the site. Even odder he was doing it in plain view at the gym. If so, he might have a legitimate Rx for it.

I do have several friends that have abnormally low testosterone levels and they do have to inject themselves daily. They are usually more discreet and do it at home but to each his own. The butt is more normal but they also inject into the abdomen area...pinch an inch and inject.

Could the guy have MS? Those meds are also taken through injection.

Since you said the guy wasn't ripped there could be any number of medical reasons to inject himself....Or there could be shady reasons. Guess we will never know....Unless you ask him.

Yeah, lots of things are legally prescribed by injection. A few months back my partner was taking a blood thinner at home that way, that I had learned at the hospital to inject for him. My doctor and I have discussed testosterone self-injections for me, because of my low levels, not for purely muscle building purposes but to forestall bone mass loss. And of course there's diabetes, also mentioned here.

But I think injections at home, or even in a restroom stall, are more appropriate. Even if this were an absolute necessity after a workout, maybe insulin, for myself I'd tell the management so no one got concerned. And also to alert them to the possibility of my having a diabetic incident, so they are prepared to respond.

I actually do that regarding my epilepsy in case of seizure, and always wear a MedicAlert bracelet. Does this guy have such a bracelet or neck chain?

Edit: Does anyone know if all forms of insulin must be kept refrigerated? Or for how long it can be kept at room temperature before spoilage? As God is my witness, I once owned a diabetic dachshund icon_exclaim.gif that needed insulin injections twice daily, and I had to keep the insulin bottles in the fridge all the time. So I'm not sure if diabetics can carry insulin around with them for any length of time.

If you're curious about it, ask the guy. Now where's that thread about giving the benefit of the doubt, don't judge...

Steroids are not illegal if you have a prescription.

It's definitely not insulin if he's injecting it directly into the muscle. Maybe he's a steroid exhibitionist?

Might be a vitamin B complex supplement. Was the liquid in the syringe a dark orange color? My understanding is that those are better absorbed as deep muscle injections rather than under the skin. At any rate, if it's not illegal I don't see any reason to hide it, just as there would be no reason to hide taking a pill.

Make sure you report him to your block warden immediately. Next thing you know he will be injecting that crap into pure, clean, white babies. Who knows, maybe he already is?

I'd call the FBI, TSA, and 911 while you're at it. You never know, he could be injecting himself with some terrorist reagent.
