What is your ultimate "disco" song and why?

I remember first hearing this song at a Fire Island tee dance....and I was like WHAT? When Loleatta Holliway came storming on the track towards the end I knew that I was in luv. It became one of my favorite songs of all time. The great thing about "Relight My Fire" is that its three songs all in one. You have the 'Vertigo" insturmental, the Dan Hartman part....and then the Loleatta Holliway "revival" section at the end. It may be close to ten minutes in length but it goes by too fast. It''s my disco classic!

    What's yours?

Oh, god. I used to be a Dj in our only nightclub in town. I have many anthems.

    Umm:

    Kylie - Shocked.
Just a perfect slice of gay dance music.

Communards - Never Can Say Goodbye
Huunneee, I never can say goodbyyyyeee boy, oooh ooh ooh ooh oohh..etc

Gloria Gaynor - I Will Survive
Yeah, it's kinda expected, and so what? It's the original gay anthem (after the Garland crowd). It's old and daggy now, I suppose, but it rocked in it's day, and I am putting money on that Miley Cyrus and everyone else in that genre will never put out a song that touches so many - so there!!

Dead Or Alive - You Spin Me Round
While Boy George and Marilyn were outraging people with their outrageous looks, true believer Pete Burns got some decent dance action on and created a dancefloor anthem that even today, after SO many remakes, still thunders the house.

ALSO RANS - stuff that might be classic, but is still today:

Lady Gaga has some decent stuff going on
JT - LoveSexEtc is a damned decent listen
Anything by Tony DeVit, if you like it harder
Anything by Fedde Le Grand and his crew (Ida Corr etc)
Anything with the names Freemasons, Bimbo Jones, Digital Dog or (myself) DJ Petey attached - always quality!

If you want some really good party house music - hit me up with a nice email and I will send you some of my world famous remixes.

    love

I think this song closed EVERY gay bar at 1:55 a.m. in California for while:

That is, until she went religous-bonkers on us.

Holy shit. We're dating ourselves here, guys. I don't think 85% of the boys on this site have ever heard a disco song.

I second this. But Take That's was my "coming out" story. Danced to it in straight clubs and school discos. The media kept going on about how "homoerotic" and gay friendly they were, so I felt maybe coming out wasn't such a big deal.

I like plenty of disco songs. A few favorites are:

Marvin Gaye - "Got To Give It Up"

Earth, Wing & Fire - "September"

    Diana Ross - "Love Hangover"

im not a fan of Disco...but there was always this song that i for some reason really liked..I think it might be the lyrics and just being able to relate to those exact words...Reminded me of someone i met once who for the first time left me speechless..Since him i dont think anyone ever had the effect on me ever again..well they did to a point..but not as far as he did (sorry..now i read this its kinda gay....lol..but its true..)

I WISH I was around in the 70s icon_smile.gif ......... my partner recently passed away and he was a good bit older than me and he had all this fantastic disco music that we used to listen to - I think of him when I hear good disco music icon_smile.gif So my favorite disco songs are:

Donna Summer - last dance, love to love you baby, hot stuff, I feel love
    The Spinners - rubberband man
Sylvester - do ya wanna funk
    The Supremes - honey bee
Charo and Salsoul orchestra - dance a little bit closer (great!)

Does anyone actually look at what everyone else has posted on these "fave music" threads or not bother and just assume that everyone who reads will be astounded by their own great taste in music ...

Or maybe that's just me icon_rolleyes.gif

"He's the greatest dancer" Sister Sledge.

I remember my dad being in the hospital about 100 miles away from our house . This would play on the radio and I just loved it. I would wait all throughout those long trips to visit my dad hoping they would play it again.

I love 70's or early 80's music that falls into the soul/funk/disco category.
"Relight my fire" is an excellent example.

these tunes could be in either category
