Anti-Gay State Legislator Got DUI After Leaving Gay Nightclub, Sources Say
    March 4, 2010 | 2:42:56 PM (EST)

Early Wednesday morning, State Sen. Roy Ashburn (R-Calif.) was pulled over and arrested for drunk driving. Sources report that Ashburn -- a fierce opponent of gay rights -- was driving drunk after leaving a gay nightclub; when the officer stopped the state-issued vehicle, there was an unidentified man in the passenger seat of the car.

Ashburn has issued an apology for the incident:

"I am deeply sorry for my actions and offer no excuse for my poor judgment. I accept complete responsibility for my conduct and am prepared to accept the consequences for what I did. I am also truly sorry for the impact this incident will have on those who support and trust me - my family, my constituents, my friends, and my colleagues in the Senate."
    ______________

It's always infuriating when someone who knows from personal experience that orientation is not a choice STILL proceeds to inflict hell on gays.

Read Joe.My.God's blog on this , for further elaboration and outrage. Seems the gay mayor of West Sacramento had known Sen. Ashburn was gay and frequented gay bars in Sacramento for quite some time while voting consistently on anti-gay legislation -- but the mayor had not called Asburn out or said nothing public about that. Even the local newspaper in Bakersfield interviewed Ashburn and pointedly questioned whether Ashburn were gay and acting hypocritically in his history of anti-gay voting. Ashburn replied that he was voting the way his constituency wanted.....and that his personal life was not relevant!

And he's full of shit because he knows all too well that if wind got out to his constituency that he's gay, he'd be out of work.
