I'm thinking about purchasing an iTouch. Does anyone own one? What's your take on it? (I don't want an iPhone.)

Can you DOWNLOAD your songs FROM your iPod onto your MacBook Pro and save them as back-up? I used to upload them from iTunes on my G5 but that computer got fried and I worry if I lose my iPod, I'd lose my entire playlists.

    HELP!

itunes doesn't support transfering from iPod to iTunes, however there are apps you can get online that'll do it for you.

the iPod Touch is like the iphone without the phone part or the camera and most of the awesomeness that is the iPhone..

    Cool. I appreciate your input.

I wonder if iTouch will eventually come out with a camera feature. I'll just wait or get an iPhone when I lose my cell phone, whichever comes first.

'iTouch' is not an iPod Touch. It's a different phone... Google it

I have both. The iPhone is essentially an iPod Touch wiht a phone and camera and, of course, you don't need to be in a WiFi area to access the web.

Since the new iPod Nano has camera and video, I'm betting the next generation iTouch will have it as well.

Unless you are in love with Blackberry or another smartphone, I think if you are really interested in the Touch, just get an iPhone and then you will have one all in one device.

P.S. the major shortcoming of teh iPhone is the camera - no flash and fairly low resolution but that may be remedied with the next generation.

    and the camera.

I've had the first generation iTouch and it's outlasted all my other iPods. I think that might be because it uses flash memory instead of a micro-HD.

You can back up items on an iPod to a machine. You need to make sure first that you turn iPod syncing off. Tell iTunes that you want to sync things manually.
Are the music files you trying to transfer AAC iTunes purchase or mp3 files?

meow... Aren't we touchy? Pun intended. Just don't want you to buy an htc touch, also mistakenly confused with itouch and iPod touch. Just go touch yourself.

The only thing an ipod will do as far as transferring music, is transfer purchases. Whar is unique about an ipod touch is, you can buy stuff from itunes on it and the next time it is hooked up to the computer, the music will be transferred to the computer.

I'm personally waiting until apple updates their ipods again before I get an ipod touch-I really have no use for the phone.

I LOVE my iPod Touch. I take it everywhere I go. I wish I had gotten a 16GB or 32GB instead of an 8GB, but it's all good. I recently got the Nike+ sensor for running, it's very nice. I got a pouch for the sensor so I could use it with my New Balance shoes.

    ipod touch..
    - No phone
    - No camera
    - No GPS (uses wifi triangulation instead)
    - Slightly slower processor
    - Firmware updates cost money

There are programs that will enable you to copy the contents of your iPod and iTouch to your computer. Check out programs like Senuti.

From what you are saying, I wouldn't hesitate to get an iPod Touch (granted a Nano may be preferable for working out due to it's compact size).

If you want to bring your playlists and music from any iPod (as in a "rescue" situation) Music Rescue is a great free program for that. Just go a search for it on the Apple homepage.

You can also add Skype to your applications and use a Touch as a phone as long as you have access to a wi-fi network.

an itouch is way better than an ipod. i was debating between the two also. bc at first i just wanted music and liked the idea of just having the simple classic original ipod, but i must say i am loving all the other apps and features that came along with it.

    team itouch!

Geek sites dissect new products, and the recent model of the iPod touch has a place for a camera in its framework, so there is every indication a camera will come very soon for the touch.

    Thanks guys for the input.

I contacted RJ about adding another forum category titled 'Technology' so we can share tips, advice, critique about our toys. I haven't heard back from them.
