Would you go to a gay punk/rock bar?

So it seems gays in general are sick of the gay bar scene, and show up for the sole reason there is nowhere else to go... if your city had a gay or gay friendly rock bar, would you rather go there?

I bring it up because the bars in Colorado Springs have consistently lost patrons to the rock bars in town, which i love, and even the gays would rather hang out at them. But there isn't anything close to that in the region I'm now living.

most definitely, I pretty much avoid gay bars and going out in the whole scene. One reason is I totally hate the music they play. Why does everyplace have to play awful dance music all the time. Ok yes some dance music is good but most of the sucks the bars play suck. It seems like most gay bars just try to copy each other instead of looking to stand out on their own.

In NYC they have a relatively new bar called Rockbar which is supposed to play rock/punk music but have not been able to check it out yet. Anybody been to this place yet.

So what other kinds of music do you like? I have a deplorable weakness for an elegant piano lounge, in an upscale residential setting. Do you know the Townhouse in Manhattan?

I like lotsa kinds of gay places, even go to the Manhattan Eagle, where half the guys takes their shirts off with leather everywhere, or Therapy, when I'm in a Metro mood. But when I'm feeling mellow, I visit the Townhouse.

Dress up a little (click on Dress Code at their site), take a friend along or they may not let you in, and try not to mistakenly hit on the bodyguards who accompany some of the patrons. A different experience you might enjoy as a change of pace. BTW, the drink prices are as good or better than any in the City, at least the last time I was there, and I don't recall there ever being a cover.

ah Eagle now thats my kind of bar but only good music some of the time but tons of eye candy on a good night. They actually have a pretty good beer blast on the weekend with the rooftop deck open.

Generally I want harder edged stuff so dont know if a piano bar would be my cup of tea but Ill check out the website.

Hell yes - I love punk and rock. If I could get a huge group of sweaty shirtless guys to dance to everything on my ipod I'd be in heaven.

There's a rock/punk gay bar in NYC in Queens. It may be the only one in the country as far as I know.

Hell yea, I don't like most of the gay bars, I prefer mixed crowds. Seems to much like a meet market at the gay bars. A rock bar would be sweeeeetttttTTT!

Actually, I would prefer it. I've never understood the music that I'm "supposed" to like as a gay man. I would much rather listen to the Clash than Lady Gaga. I hate that droning club music with every fiber of my very soul. MJ's in the Silverlake section of LA has a night when they only play rock music (I think it's on Mondays).

... care to tell us what and where it is?? I'd be totally into that.

My favorite party was Rock N' Roll Fag Bar because they played ALL KINDS OF MUSIC. Rock, punk, disco, new-wave, pop, etc. You just never knew - and everyone loved it and it was always a surprise. Gay NYC was a whole different kind of fun back then.

as long as the djs promise not to remix it to the point of soullessness for the sensory-challenged meth-heads and ketamine queens who provided the impetus for the last fifteen years of shitty club music.

I would much rather go to one than go to a gay club. I've never been and don't plan on going to one. icon_biggrin.gif

Yes please. As long as it's not cheesy "modern rock." There used to be a lot of parties like that in New York (mixed, but still very gay) but they've since disappeared. Unless they're still around and I just don't go out as much anymore.

Yes, but with a caveat. As usual, the issue is QC. So if you mean the Ramones, and Patti Smith, and New Wave, and The Rolling Stones, and David Bowie, and Iggy Pop, and so on, I'm all in. If it's going to be an AC/DC-Guns 'N' Roses marathon, I might prefer house music (and that's saying a lot). Not that I can't take one round of "Sweet Child of Mine" or a Twisted Sister video, but everyone has their limits, and mine is a pretty low bar on hair bands.

Yes. I like diversity even with my music. I have been to a few. There are some bars that let you select music with some kind of pay jukebox. It is always interesting to see what people select - at "pecs" here the music is a little more on the rock side. Also at a beer bust bar here, they usually play older music which means a lot of music in the alternative/rock genre.

I think it depends on the clientele whether gay or straight. Levi's places and places with a little older crowd seems to be like that.

I should say I don't hate "gay bars" or anything, but I like it when a bar is a little straight/gay mixed.

    FUCK YES!

That is, if it really CATERED to that music "scene" - however in the gay club scene most alot consider Avril Lavigne "Punk" ... Which is, effin' HILARIOUS!

Ive been dying to 'Slam Dance' into folks lately! icon_twisted.gif

But hell yeah, if it threw on some Old school tunes - I'd be game!

Yeah, I'd go to one. The gay bars where I used to live were either a) full of bad dance music and annoying or b) complete dive bars. A rock/punk bar, or even just a regular bar with a slight gay theme, sounds pretty cool.

Yes. A thousand times over, yes.

The most fun I've ever had at the local bar here is when they host bands. It used to be a once a month thing, but the organizer quit.

The last time was about a month ago for a local queercore band's (http://www.queercontrol.com/fr_onceapawn.cfm... can't help but plug themicon_smile.gif ) CD release party with a few other local groups. The 'regulars' complained about not having dance music going, even though the bar was wall to wall people having a total blast.
