GOP state senator comes out of closet in aftermath of drunk driving arrest
    March 8, 2010 | 11:38 am

A Republican state senator from Bakersfield came out of the closet in a radio interview Monday morning in the wake of a report that he had been at a gay club in Sacramento before he was arrested on drunk driving charges last week.

Ashburn defended his votes against gay-rights legislation, saying he was reflecting how the voters in his district felt.

"I believe firmly that my responsibility is to my constituents," Ashburn said.

Ah, Senator, does your duty to your constituents include telling them you're really gay, instead of masquerading as a straight man during your election campaigns? If you were a mislabeled can of fruit you'd be recalled (double pun intended). icon_wink.gif

Hah. Sucks he's unattractive, or he'd get a Lot more attention, and the gays would support him. In all seriousness, he has an opportunity to make it right now, and swing his focus. Let's see if he does... icon_rolleyes.gif

How many gay and bisexual democrats serving in things like the military have not come out until their career is over, and they are now willing to pay the consequence if any for being a homosexual/bisexual. They are now willing to leave their wife for a male lover too; is this not shame too.

being a homosexual, and being a republican are two diffrent things. One is personal and the other is work, and they have the ability too separate the two. They put the welfare of their county at work before their own personal needs; what strength! Just because you are born a homosexual don't mean you owe ever other homosexual something.

Is is no less a homosexual because he is a republican, he put his country before his own personal wants, and NOW look at how the gay community turns on him and not support him in his hour o need, now that something to hang his head about.

So let me get this straight .. you claim that just because you are a homosexual you don't owe another homosexual something .. yet you think that the gay community owes him something for being a reckless criminal? You are one big hypocrite .. not that most people don't already know that.

Drunk driving is not putting your country first, it is putting yourself first.

What foolishness. And the only person that turned on someone was the closet gay republican who assisted a rally against gays .. now I know why you like him so much .. he has the same patticake agenda.

As far as his hour of need, what he needs is a lawyer and a conscience .. not accolades from the gay community.

Exactly what I was thinking. If he had been honest about himself when he ran for office, there would be no conflict between voting his conscience and voting the will of his constituents -- since they would have known what they were getting when they chose him to represent them.

Politicians usually make a big deal about *values*. Now he's saying that his values are not relevant? Hmm.

    I disagree.

It may be his job to be a politician but that doesn't mean you throw out your morals and say fuck you to the things that should matter and that you should stand for. Yeah, once they are no longer in service it has been shown that some politicians change their stance on issues but come on now! They were so hypicritical in their preaching! Ashburn is no exception. I hope he can help undo some of the damage he caused now that he is OUT in the open. (smacks Ashburn with trout) icon_evil.gif

They (politicians) do NOT put the welfare of this country before their own personal needs! Would you like me to make a (LONG FUCKING) list?
