I have never done it and never will. I don't care to kill myself or commit manslaughter. People that drink and drive are despicable. Honestly, I enjoy a drink but typically don't drink in excess.

I've had eleven martinis in one sitting (one of the few times I've actually been drunk) and still knew enough NOT to drive. I don't buy the argument that decision making is totally shut off when drunk.

Truth be told, I seriously doubt that there are that many people here who, at one time or another have not driven after a few drinks. Anyone who has ever driven to dinner, had a drink or some wine, and driven home has done it. Knowing when to stop and when you've crossed the line and should not drive is key.

PAJohn saidI know people are going to disagree with me but I like to drink and drive, especially on long trips. Driving can be so boring; I like to relax with a couple of beers as I drive. A couple of beers is not going to get me too drunk to drive so I always keep a case of beer in a cooler in my trunk and I ice it up every day from my ice machine at work. I also keep a couple small bottles of Southern Comfort in the glove box. Now I know never to get too drunk while I'm driving but a drink or two is never going to hurt anyone.

Didn't you just post in a different forum that the problem with younger guys is that THEY are idiots? Hmm....

Actually, the courts are lined with people who got DUIs after drinking and thought they were okay to drive...and they may have been...but the luck of the draw got them stopped and they ended up in jail.

I'll like have a beer or two and be able to drive. But if I know I'm going to get drunk, I'll just cab.

When I'm driving, I won't even have one. I am the last to volunteer as designated drive as I love to drink.

Why all the self righteousness? That doesn't erase the fact probably everyone has done it at one time. All we can do is vow to never do it again.
After 11 martinis, I doubt if anyone would even still be awake to make the decision to call a cab. LOL.

Oh, I was still very much awake. But one of my friends told me a few days later that when he wouldn't go with me in the cab I told him he was a traitor and should be hung for treason. icon_eek.gificon_redface.gif

PAJohn saidMy point is that drinking (in moderation) while driving is OK but drunk driving is not. You just have to know your limit. If you are drunk you shouldn't be behind the wheel but moderate drinking while driving helps to pass the time, especially on long trips.

Everyone makes such a fuss about drinking and driving but drinking while driving is NOT the problem. The problem is DRUNK driving and there is a difference. A BIG difference.

Well when you get a DUI, you explain to the cop that your idea of drinking in moderation and the States aren't the same. I'm sure he'll understand your point of view... especially with the open intoxicants in the car.

Went to a one party once a long time ago and drank too much. Next day, I couldn't remember how I got the car home and put it away so carefully. I am so lucky I didn't kill a person or an animal (or myself). I never, ever did this again. How stupid could I have been? It could have been "goodbye" to my career, life, some innocent person's life, you name it.

Just say no to drinking and driving (unless it is just some small glass of wine with dinner earlier or something like that. I'm talking about serious drinking without food, etc). Don't do it!
