Town: huge megaclub... located at 8th and U, NW Plays house upstairs and top 40 downstairs. Friday is more college night... lots of young twinky boys who just came out (lol), and Saturday is more fun... its 20s-30's crowd.
Nellies: 9th and U, NW. "Sports" bar. A fun place to chill and chat with friends. It gets very busy on weekends, so its not really a quiet bar. they have all kinds of activities during the week... drag queen bingo on wednesdays, etc.
Cobalt: 17th and R, NW. This is my favorite place. Its smaller, more intimate, and has a dancefloor and bar upstairs in addition to the bar area downstairs that is better for meeting people and talking. It attracts all kinds of people.... and they play top 40/house music as well. They have various theme nights during the week, including the ever-popular Thursday night underwear "best package" contest.
JR's: 17th & Corcoran, NW. A bar bar... no frills. its fun on mondays when they have "Showtunes" night. This is a place where 30-somethings to 40's and older tend to go. Its worth a visit if you like a bar atmosphere. Has a couple billiard tables upstairs.
Halo: (Now AKA "MOVA") P St, between 14th and 15th. Its a pretty 'classy' bar. It has a lot of loungey feel going on... modern decor and pretty lighting. I'm not the biggest fan of this place bc it can feel a little stuffy and pretentious at times. Its a place you'd want to get a little dressed up for... nice place to START out if you are going out with friends for your birthday, for example. Drinks are good but on the pricier side.
