Network (1976) - Best script ever written, in my opinion.

The dialogue is incredible, the story original, the characters dynamic, and scene after scene, one after the other, this film is brilliant and decades ahead of its time. It is just as relevant, if not more so, today, than it was when it was first made.

Howard Beale, an aging news anchor has been fired, and he announces on TV that he will kill himself on live television the following program. Beale goes on the following program, delivering a memorable speech after hearing am omniscient voice the night before, and the ratings spike through the roof, and the network offers Beale his job back. As an omniscient voice speaks through Howard, either that or he is just crazy, he becomes the "mad prophet of the airways" while the Network is being absorbed by a large corporation. Eventually, the "mad prophet" challenges the "Network", and out of it spills the monumental brilliance that is this film.

I love, love, love this movie.

    Some great scenes:

One of my favourite scenes in movie history.

So... what's your favourite movie, and why?

    Anyone else seen "Network"?

I remember Network and all of us running around screaming I'm Mad As Hell & I'm Not Going To Take It Anymore!" Wish we in the gay community would rise up like that...I'll get back to you on favorite movie.

    Ah yes, the famous line.

That's what I love about this movie so much... the writing.

From that standpoint, it's spectacular, as with every single scene, there is so much purpose, key plot changes and pivotal character developments with each and every scene. There is not one single wasted word or moment, and that's what is so brilliant. There is no filler, just substance.

"I want you to get mad!"

"I'm a human being, god damnit! My life has value!"

Aside: I'm watching this movie right now for probably the 20th time. Thus, the topic.

I will argue to my dying breath that "Rudy" (1993) is the best film that ever was. Ever. Ever. EVER.

I own the movie and watch it more often than I should. I bawl every time he finally gets to play and the fat guy in the stands yells "he's so little!" and everyone cheers.

There's no greater message in it that makes me think it's the best movie ever. It just love the way I come out of it feeling. Invincible.

    Ever. Best. Movie. Ever. Dammit.

In my collection that I own and have seen:

    No Question about it:

    The Devil's Advocate

The whole good vs evil with the question of free will put into it. This movie also put Charlize Theron on the map as an actress. And as always, Al Pacino shows us why he is one of the greatest actors of our time. His take on Lucifer is brilliant and his bit about the 20th century being all his doing makes perfect sense. It really is a great movie with a great message about free will and choices.
