I think Britain now knows how it should regard President Obama. He is not a friend. He began his term as President by sending back the bust of Churchill icon_eek.gif which used to occupy a prominent position of the White House and now has the gall to ignore the wishes of the Falkland Islanders and heaven knows how many UN decisions and says he is "neutral" about who own the islands.

Fine. Then Britain can be neutral about him next time he asks Britain to back some US venture; I hope Oz will follow suit too.

Like so many Americans, Obama thinks the US need not worry about any opinion but their own and that the rest of the world is somehow insignificant. Reagan saw it differently and together with Thatcher and Gorbachev. defeated Communismicon_razz.gif. Bush's brush with the "axis of evil was a bit more controversial but at least he had a concern for the future of the world and it's,security. Obama appears to be concerned with trashing anything his predecessors liked including Britain.

Why do you think you speak English Mr President? Who kept Hitler at bat for three years Mr President while America dithered?

Who provided the base for US forces to bomb Libya when everone else NO?

You are conceited, rude and ignorant Mr President but that is America's misfortune not Britain's or The land of Oz.

President out of luck. Us President Obama want be getting an Order of Australia when he visits here this month. Not sure why some-one would of thought him worth, as he has done nothing.

Indonesian President Suilo Bambang Yudhoyono received Australia's highest civilian honer this week.

Prime Minister Kevin Smugg indicated Mr Obama was not in line for similar recognition. Well I'm pleased to hear that as he has done nothing.

    ...and facts are always nice.

"Intended as a symbol of transatlantic solidarity, the bust was a loaner from former British prime minister Tony Blair following the September 11 attacks. A bust of Abraham Lincoln—Obama's historical hero—now sits in its place. A White House spokesperson says the Churchill bust was removed before Obama's inauguration as part of the usual changeover operations, adding that every president puts his own stamp on the Oval Office. Pattison I think you are overreacting because of President Obama returning the bust of Winston Churchill back to the UK. I don't see any contempt of the British in these actions. Granted even the closest allies have major disagreements from time to time but that does not mean that we Americans do not appreciate the British as a trusted and close ally. Next thing you are going to complain that President Obama has slighted both Canada and Mexico over something or other. But we Americans still appreciate and respect our allies even if some of our politicians indicate otherwise in their actions.

    Oh, really.
I'm just dying to hear how this played out.
What exactly did Thatcher and/or Reagan do to defeat Communism ?

Correct me if I'm wrong on this, but I recall a newscast of Thatcher, Regan and Gorbachev, all sitting at a desk on which a Nuclear Disarmament Agreement was signed.

Communism was not defeated by the West, rather it collapsed within itself as a result of first the Polish Solidaridisc, then the permitting of Glasnost, or openess, then Perestroika, or individual initiative. The signing of the Nuclear Disarmament Agreement was the end result of these three initiatives which preceeded the signing.

This is a rather infantile and linear description of historical and present international affairs, don't you think?

I do not envy your interpretation or comprehension of world affairs.

Great Britain did not drag the United States into The Great War and World War II, the leadership very well knew that the actions we were taking would take us to war. Do not be mistaken in that small fact.

jockfever: Good post. If memory serves, England sent the bust of Churchill to Bush as a symbol of solidarity after 9/11. While I share your indignation, the Obama White House is not worthy to house a bust of one of the greatest leaders of the last century. Few of the smug responders to your post have probably bothered to read any of Churchill's memoirs of World War II, one of the greatest books of modern times.

Two years into Obama's term we can see that this incident was just the start of a delusional foreign policy which is like Carter II.

Since Statist Obama took over the White House England elected a conservative government, ditto France, Germany, Australia. The rest of the world has moved on, but the world will be a more dangerous place and a place which respects America less, when this fraud is finished.

Prince William and his fiancee have decided to omit Obama from their guest list, a choice which is understandable.

German U-boat attacks on US ships were (amongst other things, also beyond Britain's control) responsible for dragging the US into WW1.

The Japanese attack on Pearl Harbour dragged the US formally into WW2, although many other factors, again, beyond Britain's control, also played a part.

Britain repaid her US war loans. The payments finished in Dec 2006.

As a Brit, I do not see President Obama as any more or any less pro-British than any other US president in recent history.
