What's it like to live in Miami?

What's it like to live in Miami? I'm originally from the Northeast and now in my late 20s.

Is there any issues with gay discrimination in general?

    What's the dating scene like?

Is the drug culture rather prevailent there (I'm not into drugs at all)?

Is it easy to make friends?

How about employment opportunities in the software engineering industry?

    Any insights are welcome. Thanks!

I live 35 miles north of Miami, have been going there since 1973. First of all, it's important to distinguish between the City of Miami, and Miami Beach, which is across Biscayne Bay on the Atlantic Ocean. They are not the same, some miles apart, and have very different characteristics.

Miami is heavily Cuban and Hispanic, and more oriented to business like most large cities, rather than tourism. Gays in recent years have suffered from hate crimes there. Miami Beach on the ocean was once a gay mecca. That's faded now, the gays having moved north to Fort Lauderdale and Wilton Manors.

Miami Beach is still gay-friendly, with a few gay spots, but nothing like it was, nothing like what's portrayed in the move The Birdcage.

Your other questions I can't answer, which are outside my personal experience, and so I leave them to others here.
