Psychopaths among us: are psychopaths more common than people who are gay?

The title was admittedly just to make this topic relevant - but, by some estimates, as many as 1 in 25 Americans are psychopaths. One of the foremost experts on psychopaths estimates as many as 300,000 Canadians are psychopaths.

    http://www.hare.org/links/saturday.html Excerpt:
"And it's really just beginning. Psychopathy may prove to be as important a construct in this century as IQ was in the last (and just as susceptible to abuse), because, thanks to Hare, we now understand that the great majority of psychopaths are not violent criminals and never will be. Hundreds of thousands of psychopaths live and work and prey among us. Your boss, your boyfriend, your mother could be what Hare calls a "subclinical" psychopath, someone who leaves a path of destruction and pain without a single pang of conscience. Even more worrisome is the fact that, at this stage, no one -- not even Bob Hare -- is quite sure what to do about it."

For possibly one of the most disturbing blogs I've ever come across check this out: http://raising-a-psychopath.blogspot.com/ - It's by a parent writing about his son who is a psychopath. It's truly enough to give one pause if you're thinking about adopting or having a kid. Heck, it's a great counterpoint to any parent who makes stupid comments about why they got a gay son.

The irony is that I'm sure if I did, they'd point right back at liberals - after all, psychopaths are often charismatic, charming people who seek positions of power. Check out the article, it's pretty eye opening.

This sounds like a dynamite horror movie. Oh, man. One psychopath could easily take down 24 people with no remorse and all that would be left would be psychopaths gunning for psychopaths. Special effects galore!

The article describes a psychopath as "someone who leaves a path of destruction and pain without a single pang of conscience." Pretty much describes current conservative ideology to me.

I'm sure the estimates would be higher here in Texas.
