A WSJ poll found that a majority of economists say that the intervention of the Federal Reserve and the Democrat's economic stimulus bill rescued the economy from the Bush recession.
They "estimated that the stimulus added one percentage point to growth in 2009; they forecast gross domestic product would expand 3% this year, compared to 2.2% in the absence of stimulus. They estimated that the February unemployment rate, reported at 9.7% last week, would have been 10.4% without the stimulus".

This article was published March 12, 2010.

The swift action of President Obama and the Democratic majority have made a real difference in cleaning up the mess created by Republican economic policies.

When the Wall Street Journal admits that Dem policy was the right direction, that tells you how far adrift the GOP really is.

I think that's undeniable but I would hardly call WSJ right-wing...more like moderate / centrist.

the article doesn't exactly celebrate the stimulus, more like accepts that it was better than nothing...
when it came out and everyone realized it consisted mostly of long term projects that the dems wanted to spend money on, regardless of the economy, it was clear this could have been done better. economists said "stimulus" only works if it floods the economy with cash almost instantly...such as a payroll tax amnesty lasting 2 months.

can you imagine collecting your paycheck without federal tax for 2 months? I'd feel like a king! THAT would have stimulated the economy. instead we got nancy pelosi's massive collection of pet projects that the wsj acknowledges kinda helped...

    yay, go stimulus... icon_rolleyes.gif
