In the US, states have "reputations"...like West Virginia is known for poverty, and throw-back people who marry their cousins.

I am watching Kinky Boots and they are making references to Northampton and I dont understand.

I've never heard anything about it, but what are the references I may be able to guess very accurately : P.

Northampton doesn't really have a 'reputation' as such.

Traditionally Northampton was a major centre of shoemaking and other leather related industries. Shoemaking has almost ceased though the back streets of the town still retain the pattern of small shoe factories surrounded by terraced houses for outworkers. Northampton's main industries now include distribution and finance, and major employers include Barclaycard, Nationwide Building Society, Euro Building & Maintenance, Panasonic, Travis Perkins, Coca Cola Schweppes Beverages Ltd, National Grid and Carlsberg.

Northampton is known for a big tower where they test elevators. It´s where Otis lifts were based.

Apart from that it´s dull as dishwater. However, this evening while in a sauna in Gran Canaria, Spain, I had sex with a bloke from Northampton, England. So it´s not all bad.

Haven´t seen Kinky Boots so I can´t help you there.

Lola: [looks horrified] Burgundy. Please, God, tell me I have not inspired something burgundy. Red. Red. *Red*. *Red*, Charlie boy. *Red*! Is the color of sex! Burgundy is the color of hot water bottles! Red is the color of sex and fear and danger and signs that say, Do. Not. Enter. All my favorite things in life.

    It's an amusing movie.

Another question: Is "frock" a common word for "dress" in British English?

I find it kind of annoying...but that's cuz I just want to say "dress"....just plain old "dress"

Frock is an old fashioned word for dress or skirt. Usually it´s means a dress that´s pretty. Ask Loz.

Without a doubt it's one of the best quotes in the movieicon_razz.gif

Northhampton just an old heavy industry town that has fallen hard with the decline in the manufacturing industry, Particularly associated with anti-social behavior , rioting and football hooliganism etc

Also it's inhabitants have a particularly strong working class British accent

Northampton Gun Crime its news to me and its right on my doorstep, if anything exciting happened there it would be a miracle.

They have a great accent there and call everyone "me duck".

Apart from that nothing of real significance to give it a reputation

Why would they call everyone (or anyone) "me duck"? What does it mean?
