I'm glad it passed. I wanted single payer and still do, but I think this victory could pave the way for maintaining liberal majorities in November and make financial reform and other important progressive pieces of legislation viable.

When the republicans take over the senate in November they will repeal BS!

I would like to know how people think paying more for inferior healthcare benifts them??

The Republicans aren't going to repeal this bill. David Frum explains why:

If you want a rough estimate of how you'll fare under the newly adopted bill, here's a calculator. I indeed will be paying more than I pay now if this is accurate.

The Republicans just hoisted themselves on their own petard as Obscene pointed out. If you think any of them are going to vote against senior citizens by putting the donut hole back into place or trying to strip people of the protections this legislation provides, you're crazy.

By the cost calculator, my health care premiums will go down $150 a month in 2014 if I make the same income. Yeah!

I would rather like to know how people like you can be bamboozled by Republican scare tactics & propaganda into believing such lies? And support a party that has no scruples about spreading such inflammatory rhetoric, that has nearly torn our country apart politically, just for them to have an emotional issue they hope will bring them back into power.

Maybe you're right, and you'll get your wish about Congress changing hands. But be careful what you wish for. Because once the insurance companies have their way again, rates will skyrocket, and we'll see a return to arbitrary coverage denials, and refusal of needed procedures. Now THAT'S inferior health care, in which the US already lags behind the rest of the industrialized world, in terms of actual quality of care delivered, not pure technology.

Rush won't leave the country lest he forget how fat his paycheck is for pushing extreme ideas to keep the country divided.
I think it is rather disheartening that we have so many extreme constituents who are eager to shout their negative critiques, such as the fear of paying more and discussion of meager benefits. You have the option to choose the appropriate benefit package and provider because as a country our greedy asses have relegated so much power to corporations and healthcare providers that even passing this bill the insurance agencies still have more power than voters and tax payers should like them to have. As an investment in progression of societal values and a unified country, if it were the case that I would pay more initially I will take it because in 4 short years, even in 6 months it will be more than worth it.
We as a "great country" also have more voters who don't know anything about politics yet we have more extreme view voters than any other country. That's strange! I say juststand behind your president and hope he doesn't screw this country as badly as the guys that you did elect and root for! icon_biggrin.gif

Still, a smart piece. (No jokes, please.)

Meanwhile, here's another intelligent, non-inflammatory column from a skeptic but one who at least seems to live in what I can regard as the real world (if there is any real world):

34 democrats voted against and 1 flipped when they voted on the bill with the fixes that is going to the senate. I am going to find out who they were and line them up beside the republicans if they are in my area and keep a running track and come november, I will do whatever possible to unseat all of them.

The teabaggers and republicans want a fight? They just got one.

Frumm's article citing the Healthcare reform package passing as the republican waterloo is getting a lot of play
The blogs are eating it up
    http://blogs.alternet.org/speakeasy/2010/03/21/gops-waterloo-let-the-republican-fingerpointing-begin/

    http://www.talkingpointsmemo.com/archives/2010/03/frum_on_hcr.php

    http://www.thedailybeast.com/cheat-sheet/item/frum-healthcare-is-gops-waterloo/the-other-side/

    and for good reason
    The republicans failed
They were the ones who claimed this to be Obama's Waterloo
    and he succeeded
and NOW they are going to find themselves once again fighting against something that is likely to be very popular and something that people will not want touched in the future
Is this going to be a panacea?
    Of course not
But it's a step that will bring us into the 21st century along with the rest of the civilized world when it comes to providing the basic healthcare for its citizens

People need to start asking what have the Republicans done for anyone, except promote big business and line their own pockets.

This will be a good start to a new health care system.
