    ACORN Folds As National Organization

    http://tpmmuckraker.talkingpointsmemo.com/2010/03/acorn_folds_as_national_organization.php

Acorn was targeted because they were effective advocates for the working poor and disenfranchised in the US.

The fact that allegations against them were bogus had no effect on the outcome.
Another example showing that you don’t need facts on your side, just the ability to manipulate a gullible media into reporting your talking points as if they had any correspondence to reality.

The effort to register the qualified poor and disenfranchised to vote, mostly minorities, will continue in a different way. It's no surprise that Republicans, allies of corporations and enemies of ordinary people, saw ACORN as a threat, and sent agents to fabricate video stories against them. Nor unexpected that someone like WickedRyan would call them Communists.

But Communists? Isn't that a Republican right-wing slander from the 1950s? Like Republican Senator Joe McCarthy stuff? You're supposed to say Socialists today, that's the current Republican buzzword. Do try to keep yourself up to date, WickedRyan, OK? You must have missed the memo on the talking points. Otherwise you might look even more foolish than you already do.

Wait for it....the phoenix will rise again, sooner and much wiser than those [who attempted to destroy it] thought possible!

This is not a victory for the Repubs.
A new and different organization will step in and take the place of Acorn, and do it better.
In the meantime, the Repubs have lost one of their lamer talking points.
They'll have to think up some other sideshow distraction to talk about.
So they don't have to talk about the real issues, and their record of gross incompetence and failure.

No, actually they were targeted because they were a dishonest organization who were FINALLY exposed. Good riddance.

No no, it's still alive and kicking. Here's my favorite, the famed pit of hell quote from Texas State Representative Debbie Riddle:

In a March 6, 2003 interview with the El Paso Times, Riddle was quoted as saying:

"Where did this idea come from that everybody deserves free education, free medical care, free whatever? It comes from Moscow, from Russia. It comes straight out of the pit of hell."

Well, that's because people don't deserve free medical care.

Who says anything about free? People will pay premiums, even if they're getting tax breaks for it.

Does this really surprise anyone? A republican 'journalist' lying and fabricating to make a point?

After being subjected to the drivel on Fox News for the past few months I can see a trend with these folks.

Good riddance. This bunch of rag-tag misfits were so corrupt that even one of their own - now in the highest office in the country - couldn't (or wouldn't) save their sorry asses.

June 10: Rachel Maddow points out that all of the indignation and outrage expressed by Republicans over charity organization ACORN has not resurfaced for BP even though BP's behavior has obviously been more damaging to America.

Thank you. I know the big story is BP and the oil spill, but I hope this gets picked up by all the media outlets that were so quick to jump gun.

NY Supporters: Take a Stand Against Unconstitutional Defunding of ACORN

New York area CCR supporters, please join CCR this Thursday, June 24, 2010 to take a stand against Congress' unconstitutional defunding of the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now (ACORN).

ACORN, a community organization that serves poor, working class people across the U.S., was the subject of a targeted right-wing attack last year. CCR filed a case challenging Congress' unconstitutional actions, and is heading to court this Thursday to make the message loud and clear: give ACORN the federal funding it is undeniably due.

What: Oral Argument in ACORN v. U.S.A.
When: Thursday, June 24, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. (please arrive by 9:30 a.m. for security and seating)
Where: United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit
    500 Pearl Street, 9th Floor
Ceremonial Courtroom, New York, NY 10007
