    It's the Republican's fault.

What does that mean? The people at fault in this situation are the school district officials. Congrats to Constance and the ACLU for this ruling!

Are you kidding me? Deny a lesbian her rights, and you better put your bullet-proof vest on. A number of the most prominent gay rights cases were brought by lesbians, not by gay men. Lesbians in my experience tend to be a lot more feisty than gay men, who are more likely to just shrug their shoulders and let an injustice pass. Or alternatively they squeal like girls about it to everyone else who had nothing to do with the issue, but fail to follow up with any meaningful action.

So yeah, lesbians have rights, and fight for them, when gay men often won't.

Lesbian rights is really just a manifestation of our society's sexist attitudes. Our society doesnt value women as much as men. Therefore, it is ok to allow women more deviation from the norm....more than can be accepted for males....even gay ones.

Honestly, this has given me something to think about. I do know that I had some pretty serious issues regarding hostility at work because I am gay. I tried to find a gay lawyer that would be interested in taking the case on contingency but most gay male lawyers I spoke with could care less. I did find one gay lawyer that acted interested in pursuing the civil case, but his lover acted all jealous and stuff so later on he wasn't interested. Maybe a lesbian lawyer would be the way to go.

When I had to get an emergency court order, to become my late partner's legal guardian, after he developed dementia literally overnight, I got a lesbian attorney. She was recommended to me by the president of that state's gay equality organization, one of our best friends. She got miraculous results, making me his guardian in 3 days, when the procedure typically took 3 months. And in the process, establishing a legal precedent for gay couples in that state, where gay relationships were not legally recognized.

Gentlemen, all joking about lesbians aside, in which I myself often indulge here, the bottom line is that when you want results, you seek out the best. Being gender discriminatory is self-defeating, as well as contrary to our gay principles of equal rights and respect.

My several legal experiences have so far suggested to me that when you want a bulldog to fight like hell for you, consider a lesbian attorney. Naturally there are individual exceptions, but don't rule out the women solely on the basis of gender. I've also had to come up against female attorneys in cases, when my straight male attorneys representing me were chewed up by them like dog meat.

So if you have the opportunity of having your case taken by a top-notch lesbian attorney, or any good female attorney quite frankly, I would strongly advise you to consider it.

Certainly there are distinctions between lesbians and gay men, in the minds of straights. Straight men often find sex between women to be hot, and you will see scenes of lesbian sex in men's magazines like Playboy.

But mention gay male sex to these guys, and they want to puke. Or go out and kill us. So it isn't so much same-sex, as male-on-male sex that enrages them. Meaning lesbians often get a pass, while gay men bear the brunt of homophobia.

Unequal and unfair? Sure. But much of life is unfair, not much we can do about it. Bubbas will always hate us, though maybe with time that will lessen as newer generations advance. But Christian fundamentalists and Republicans want children taught to hate gays, so that will be a challenge for us for decades yet. If there is that change in US society, it's something I realize I won't live to see. I just hope the younger guys here will work to make it happen, and get to enjoy what my partner & I will never witness.

Only if all of us work for it. My partner & I try, in small ways (we just attended a fundraiser for Equality Florida and gave them a nice donation). But I see this growing regressive Republican tide, that members here like southbeach1500 and others applaud and defend. If even our own fellow gays betray us, what future do we have? At times I do become discouraged, which no doubt heartens the likes of southbeach1500 and his ilk here. icon_sad.gif

Times are changing and I'm going to my schools Day of Silence which is a national youth movement protesting the silence faced by lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender people and their allies.

Yeah. Wish I would have gone to prom with my bf. I probably would have gotten the same reaction here in a Houston suburb
