there may be an easier and cheaper way to recover the data. my external drive failed 2 months ago; and after speaking to several people both online and off, i was told that it would cost between $500-2500 to recover the data.
then i discovered that you could just purchase the adapter cables that plug directly into the drive and into your comp.
i purchased the cables for about $22.00 including shipping. and they worked fine. all u need to find out is whether or not the driver connections are idee or sata and order the appropiate cables for the connections. set up is a breeze.

my driver has sata connections. i purchased this set with a usb connection to plug to my comp. everything works perfectly now

Yeah, this isn't a case problem, the control board on the back of the hard drive it's self has failed, without a replacement control board, the hard drive wont spinup, the heads wont move, nothing will be able to happen icon_sad.gif
