So I've finally got some vavcation time and I was wondering if people had any suggestions for where I should visit?

I live in Fukushima which is around half way up Japan's East coast and I am heading South to see the cherry blossoms. I'm going to visit Tokyo, Kyoto and Osaka obviously; I was just wondering if anyone out there had some nice suggestions while I was visiting those areas or even better would be suggestions off the beaten track. I have around 1.5 weeks off.

    Thank you.

I spend about 2 week in Tokyo, back in 1985. All I remember is how expensive and crowded the cities is.

I lived in Japan for five years (JET Programme) first in Fukuoka then Yokohama. If you're going to hit Kyoto and Osaka, I would encourage you to hit Hiroshima as well if you can. The peace park is amazing! If you can get a train pass (from outside Japan), that would save you tonnes of yen and allow you to use the Shinkansen unlimited for a week as well as the local lines.
If you're looking for gay life, Tokyo is your best best (Shinjuku Ni chome). It's been about 6 years since I was there last so I have no clue what is there. I remember Arty Farty, GBs, Club Dragon, and Advocates. All very gaijin friendly.I'm jealous! Enjoy the sakura matsuri!
