Almost all OTC sleep aids contain diphenhydramine hydrochloride - the same stuff in Benadryl. If it works for you, might as well use it. Just compare prices with the allergy meds.

If you're looking for all natural, I read in Nutrition Action that valerian root works as well as other OTC sleep aids.

PAJohn saidFor me I need to have an orgasm every night or I won't be able to sleep.

LOL same here. I have no problems sleeping. Except when I wake up in the middle of the night and have to rub another one out.... (happened again yesterday) icon_rolleyes.gif

Stay away from caffeine and alcohol; try consuming foods with tryptophan http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tryptophan

Roast a small turkey and freeze it up after making it into meal sized portions. Make it part of your supper and it should help you nod out.

valerian only worked for the first two days for me...

same for chamomile although it works again after a break of say 2 weeks

acupuncture always works but too costly and time consuming

l-tyrosine (900mg) really worked for the first 2 days and then it seemed to lose its potency

best thing seems to be turmeric (half teaspoon) or ginseng for me.

If I'm too tired to rub one out, I try to stay as still as I can and imagine a turn of events that don't make sense icon_smile.gif I guess I see it as willing myself to dream.

For example, I'd think of something that happened during the day, say like, a customer at work kissed me over the counter, but the kiss made all the water in his body chilled and I drank it all and he was nothing but a sack of skin and bones, I can feel him inside me and a lady in a chicken suit walks in and tells me I'm in trouble, so I rub my skin to flush out the guy, which makes my body expand and I float through the roof which is made of paper, the world below is actually a kids' diorama of how cyclones are formed, and I get caught in a tree etc...... icon_eek.gif

Or lavender in your pillow can help, change your bedroom around / sleep near a window / sleep facing north, only use your bed to sleep in, no food 2 hours before you retire.

I take one Benadryl caplet and that does the job for me. If I take 2 of them, I am awake all night long.

I've taken Valerian root. It doesn't really make me "sleepy", but calms me down so I can sleep.

Yeah, this is probably the best recommendation. I have tried Benadryl and Nyquil but Benadryl gives me adverse affects, and NyQuil puts me to sleep and I wake up at 3 or 4 in the morning...Hot caffeine free tea has always been the best solution for me.

K - so no judgement, cuz I am a hardcore insomniac.

Ambien does nothing but make me goofy and I have ended up sleep driving. Not good.

Lunesta leaves a TERRIBLE taste in my mouth.

Rozerem is what I find works best for me, when that's not available I take Benadryl.icon_neutral.gif
