    These people make me sick!

Fred Phelps of Westboro Baptist Church and his band of zealots plan to picket the funeral of actor Heath Ledger, because of his involvement in Brokeback Mountain. They have been most well known for picketing military funerals, and ground zero.

In a news release, the church wrote: "Yes. WBC will picket this pervert's funeral, in religious protest and warning: "Be not deceived; God is not mocked." Gal. 6:7. Heath Ledger thought it was great fun defying God Almighty and his plain word; to wit: God Hates Fags! & Fag Enablers! Ergo, God hates the sordid tacky, bucket of slime seasoned with vomit known as 'Brokeback Mountain' - and He hates all persons having anything whatsoever to do with it. Heath Ledger is now in Hell, and has begun serving his eternal sentence there - beside which, nothing else about Heath Ledger is relevant or consequential."

The Kansas-based ministry was recently ordered to pay $11 million to the father of a slain U.S. soldier for picketing at the funeral of his son. Westboro Baptist claims that the deaths of U.S. soldiers in Iraq and Afghanistan are God's wrath against a nation that tolerates homosexuality.

Its too bad that someone does not off Fred Phelps and his gang but then that would only make them think they were some sort of martyrs. icon_twisted.gif

Unfortunately, this is not very surprising from Phelps. At this point, I would be quite honored if Fred Phelps and his brainless minions came and picketed my funeral.

On the plus side, I think that most people that aren't completely pro-gay or anti-gay view his tactics as ridiculous and may feel more empathy towards gays due to this type of persecution.

    Peace

Interesting that Phelps/WBC said this. I've heard this BS from a handful of people not associated with Phelps, actually. Even gay ones.

LOL! WOW! They're boycotting an actor who was straight but portrayed a gay man. I think those are the same assholes that would boycott in Wyoming and Colorado whenever anything pertaining to Matthew Sheppard came up. Truely sickening, but you gotta laugh or you'll cry. I can't deal with people like that, my first instinct would be to punch someone like that in the face.

I really wondered how long it would be before a religious organization used Ledger's death as a cautionary tale of "supporting the homosexual agenda." Apparently the reaction was as fast as it took to write a press release. I still predict that someone of Pat Robertson's ilk will press the point that "Brokeback" led to Ledger's demise. Jake Gyllenhall could live to a healthy 100, and die in his sleep after having produced children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, and no one would ever attribute his long, happy life to Brokeback. It only seems to work in one direction. icon_rolleyes.gif

The general public may not take much notice when these crazies picket funerals for gays or AID's patients but now that they are picketing war heroes and loved actors just because they played a gay part...I think they will take notice and it is only going to hurt their cause

I hope the public will start coming out and harrass this group to no end. Maybe even beat the hell out of them. I don't think I would mind going to jail for that.

Just one more example of how crazies use religion against those they hate claiming to know the word of god is on their side.

I personally would be thoroughly amused if the Phelps group, and only the Phelps group, came down with a nasty disease or sickness.

But far be it from them to let anyone get away with saying it was the will of God icon_lol.gif

Before they were protesting military funerals they were picketing at funerals of people who had died of AIDS. They protested at Matthew Shepherd's funeral. They were going to protest at the funerals of the Amish children that were murdered at their school but a radio talk show host gave Shirley Phelps Roeper (Fred's spawn) air time so they wouldn't. I don't know how anybody could possibly have an axe to grind against the Amish, but somehow Fred Phelps does.

I am from the midwest and I must say that these people are the bottom of the barrel. In fact, the Westboro Baptist Church is almost exclusively made up of the Phelps family. The church only has about 60 members. Nobody is sure where their money comes from -- I would love to see the FBI and IRS investigate them. The entire family from Fred down to his kids are all lawyers, so they know precisely what they can and can't get away with. Fred has run for public office as a Democrat -- take a moment and wrap your brain around that.

These people are despicable. They are not followers of Jesus Christ. Jesus taught us to comfort people who mourn, not to make a mockery of their loved ones' funerals.

Obviously they have a right in this country but we (and by "we" I don't just mean the gay community) have a right to let our leaders know that this sort of speech and demonstration is reprehensible to us.

Will the Ledger funeral be in Australia or in the states? I would call on everyone in the area to do as the Hell's Angels have done and block the Phelpses from view of the mourners. How astonishing is it that a biker gang knows more about Christian love than a church!

    I love this video:

*gasp* You mean, our soldiers are dying because of God's wrath?! And all this time I thought it was because there was a war going on...

On a serious note, I am a Christian... but people like this just make religion look terrible. =/ A real Christian shouldn't judge, but help others instead.

The sad thing is that although most Christians think this guy is crazy, a lot of them don't disagree with him completely.

Yeah, that's very true GGA. People who act as ostentaciously as they do need to take a heavy look at themselves. If they knew anything about the Bible, they'd know all sins are weighed equally... if that's the case, it's ironic how they're just as guilty as the ones they're pointing fingers at.

I think I'm going to be sick to my stomach.

What a disgrace to our great state of Kansas...

I think one day we will be seeing violence at the
Westboro Church in Topeka. I'm surprised it hasn't happened already.

If only the media would make them look like a bunch of clowns... but I wouldn't be surprised if Ruport Murdoch secretly supports Phelps and that's where all their money comes from, haha.

I've posted briefly on here before about how Phelps and his hellspawn picketed my lover's funeral, so its no secret that I do allow myself the luxury of hating them. That's not an emotion I allow myself to have for a person... but I make an exception in this case. Too bad the first amendment can bite others in the ass like that, by protecting Phelps.

From what I'm hearing, it looks like Heath Ledger's funeral will be held in Australia. I'm also hearing that Michelle Williams has stated there would be no memorial service here, and I suspect that might be to avoid Phelps. I wonder how Phelps will be recieved if he and his hellspawn travel to Australia for this purpose. Maybe they'll encounter a nest of Sydney funnel web spiders... icon_twisted.gif

I feel sorry for those people. Living in their tiny little anger filled worlds, with nothing to comfort them but a retarded asshole pastor.
There's just no reasoning with those kinds of idiots. Of course, unless someone doesn't feel bad about poisoning everyone of their church's holier water/oil with AIDS so that they may truly understand the hand of GOD. I know it's horrible, and I don't mean it to be done in real life, but it seems to be the only way that they will change their ways. It pisses me off!
But the best thing anyone can do is to ignore them, and deny them the satisfaction of being able to be heard, angered[ in their sight], or knowing they have an impact at all. Like ignoring a bad child until they give up and/or change their ways. But we don't want them to die as matyrs for their guns, by a bullet or criminal acts of vandalism. That would empower their cause and bring more soft minded christians to their cause. I hate those !#$^%!%$*!@!%s!
