Hi guys. I recently moved to NYC and would like to join a gym, but I am feeling overwhelmed by all the options. I'm from a small city in upstate NYC where there were only a couple of choices. Can anyone in the area offer an feedback? I live in Brooklyn and work in Manhattan. I need to get back to the gym as I still have 15-20 lbs to lose. Any advice would be extremely useful. Thanks guys!

Location by work or home or both?

    NYSC is everywhere.
Crunch has locations in Manhattan and Brooklyn
Equinox has locations in Manhattan and Brooklyn.
Golds has locations in Manhattan and Brooklyn.
the YMCA has locations in Manhattan and Brooklyn.

which ones are most convenient to your work or home?

    Budget

how much can you spend? the above choices vary in cost.

I have used Crunch, the Y and now at Equinox.

    Best of luck,
    michael

I spend much of my time in Midtown Manhattan, so having something there would be good. Ideally I would like to spend $50 or less per month.

No main gyms in Manhattan are even close to less than $50/month.

    Crunch/NYSC/Golds will run you $75-$85/month

    Equinox will run you $135-$160/month

I have been members of all of the above gyms at some point. I definitely prefer Equinox, but it is quite expensive. On a budget, I'd go for Crunch. I disliked NYSC a lot.

I like 24/7 on 14th street. 60/month. Old skool style. They haven't even painted in yrs but it's a great place to go. No beauty contests or assholes there. Just my 2 cents.
