normally you should have a blast during the Summer. It's the best time to visit really.
Will you be staying on some campus? McGill perhaps ? or Concordia ?
If so you'll be right downtown, walking distance from almost everything.
Many festivals .Hopefully the "Quartier des Spectacles" will be usable. Right now it's a gigantic chaotic mess. They're building various infrastructures , amongst which a new concert hall dedicated to the MSO.
The main strip in the Village closes down and become pedestrian only all Summer long.
You can go running on Mt-Royal, biking all around the city . Montreal created the BIXI system being now implanted in many cities around the world.
    It's very popular.
    F1 race in June .
Piknik Electronik every Sunday from 2pm till sunset , right on the shore of the St-Laurent river on St-Helene ISland. It's like an electronic music fest . You bring your picnic, swimsuit, dance, relax, meet friends.. cool stuff .

    Zillion terraces, great food...

ANd as you'll be there for a while, DO make a trip to Quebec City, It's well worth it. If you miss that, you will have missed an essential piece of Quebec culture. icon_smile.gif

I was a gay 20-year old in Montreal (lived there from 19-21 for university) and you'll have a great time. It's a very gay-friendly city with lots of fun stuff to do. And summer is the best time to be there, by far. If you have any questions feel free to ask!

A slight word of caution, though. Unless you make a very conscious effort outside of class, or spend your time outside of the strict downtown area, you will not learn a word of French. I knew people who lived in Montreal their entire lives and could barely utter a passable sentence. Many people working in the service industry there (the people you will most likely talk to if you don't made friends with the locals) are anglophone and will switch to English to make it "easier" on the both of you. Make sure you get out of the center and meet some nice francophone boys. And don't spend every weekend drunk out of your mind, you'll miss out on a lot of other cool things. icon_wink.gif

Cool. I like to have fun but I'm not really a heavy party guy. I enjoy being able to wake up at a decent hour the next morning. Once in a while though...

I did Explore at Université de Montréal. It's gonna be the best time of your life! By the end of my program, I seriously thought I would be back in Vancouver to finish off the month of August and for sure was gonna move back to Montreal for September. Damn job security at home convinced me to stay in Vancouver after all. Wish I had made the move!

Keep in mind that you are required to be in class at 8:30am, so many brutal mornings will have thinking twice about partying too hard.

    LOVE Montreal!!!!

If it was surrounded by ocean, I would be living there. It was great place to meet people and will never forget a drag queen named "Madame Simonde". Wild bitch, she was.icon_lol.gif

I would be driving a red Vespa up, all over the place. Great little communities all over and it seemed to me a confidently independent city.

Ok, mes amis canadiens, peut-on expliquer "bursary"?

Cela n'existe pas dans les États-Unis.....
