Ok not a big drinker here but going to party and asked to bring booze. What should I bring that won't break my bank? Please don't say Thunderbird though a cheap bottle of wine from trader joe's I'm told is not to bad.

Vodka is always welcome. Svedka is really Absolut, made by the same Swedish company but relabeled for some "price point" marketing strategy that's beyond my understanding. About $20 for 1.75 L in most stores, a nice big bottle to bring.

If you need to go under $20, try a quart or liter of rum. That can always be used with Coke and other things. Bacardi isn't too pricey, but a name your hosts will recognize.

As for wine, anything from Australia is quite trendy right now, at good prices. In the US, I like labels from the Columbia Valley in Washington State (I used to visit many of the wineries there). Their white wines are quite good, and anything from Chateau St. Michelle will not be bad, and reasonably priced, many under $10. Just be sure to chill a white, and wrap it to keep it cool.

Vodka: Agreed on Svedka, pretty good price for a 1.75. Three Olives also makes a really good flavored vodka that is often on sale in my neck of the woods... so maybe it will be for you too?
Light Rum: Bicardi is probably the best.
Spiced Rum: Captain's not too horribly pricey, especially if you're gonna get a liter, although keep your eye out for Sailor Jerry's - it has a higher proof, tastes better in my opinion, and is sometimes cheaper at the store.
Gin: New Amsterdam, tastes much better than the low end shit and is a lot cheaper than Tanqueray or Beefeaters

Not a wine guy though.... Hope this helps!

Whenever I'm in the situation to bring something interesting that doesn't cost too much, I grab Fetzer Gewurtztraminer (Gah-vurts-Trah-meener). It's fun to say and it's a huge crowd-pleaser. The taste is somewhere between white wine and champaign, and everyone seems to drink it easy, even if they don't like alchohol. It's usually $7-9 per bottle. Most stores with a large wine selection will have it.

what type of party will you be attending? The type of folks you think will be there...conservative, daring, mixed.

Dinner party VS birthday party VS casual get-together

Is this being held during the afternoon or evening?

What do you like to drink?

Is there someone you would like to impress with your gift/contribution to the bar?
