Pesident OIbama's visit to Australia hasn't been canceled.
"A brick company has unveiled Australia’s largest tribute to Barack Obama, a 100 metre square brick art likeness of the US President, situated on the M7 at Horsley Park in south-western Sydney.
Despite the postponement
of the US President’s visit to Australia, Austral Bricks™ went ahead with the scheduled unveiling yesterday with one not so small addition, a huge sign on the top of the mural reads: “Where the bloody hell are ya?”
Austral says the brick mural will remain in place at Horsley Park for the US President’s rescheduled visit in June, at which time the sign will be removed from the tribute.
Austral Bricks’ national marketing manager, Brett Ward said, “We decided to finish the construction of the wall and the sign with our tongues firmly in our cheeks. We are using Aussie humour as a token of the friendship between our two countries and commemorate the 70th anniversary of our alliance.”“We hope our humour is taken the right way by our friends in the US and we will take down the sign as soon as the president steps foot on our shores mid-year,” he said.
The Barack Obama wall is the latest Brick Art™ mural by the company, following on from the Michael Jackson Tribute that was built in September last year. The mural contains more than 6,000 glazed bricks, laid over a five day period by J & M Langon Bricklayers and features Austral Bricks™ Burlesque® and Dynasty® ranges.
The glazed bricks used in the mural are in colours not normally associated with bricks, including green, white, blue, leather and black from both the Burlesque® and Dynasty® ranges. Seven of the 10 available brick colours were used to create the impressive art piece.
“The Brick Art™ mural demonstrates the versatility and contemporary nature of what can be achieved with bricks. Austral Bricks is excited about the opportunities that Brick Art™ can play in the creation of unique and interesting murals for architects and designers,” said Mr Mark Ellenor, NSW General Manager of Austral Bricks.
