This puts Coach K tied with Kentucky's Rupp. Only Wooden has more.

Butler had a highly underrated team that reminded me of the quick scrappy teams Duke usually puts together. They also had a great story that the media played over ad nauseum. I guess it is hard to resist when their home stadium was where the movie Hoosiers was filmed. But least I remind everyone, Cinderella doesn't get the prince on the first night. They'll be back if their coach and players stick around.

This bull about David versus Goliath irked me since both teams were ranked similarly in the polls all year long. Butler should have been a number 2 seed. Yes, Duke spends more per player but that is how you keep a Coach that brings so much revenue to the school. Butler will have to do the same to keep their fantastic (and not bad looking) coach.

Duke also had a great story. I loved that both teams had upperclassmen and were not loaded with one and done NBA players. I have watched this team develop and never thought they could go this far. The teams collective intelligence and chemistry just kept getting stronger as the season progressed. And then there is the stud ZOUBEK! It is all about his rebounding. Nolan Smith has his own great story. His dad, who died at the young age of 34, won a title while at Louisville in none other than, Indianapolis.

Very cool topic. As a Connecticut diehard, it's hard to root for Duke. But the thing about Coach K and his boys is that they are always a quality team. Like you said, there is none of this one-and-done nonsense. These players come to play for a great coach and almost always for four years. They never perform well in the NBA, just look at Shane Battier or Corey Magetti. In reflection it's always clear that they were part of a bigger thing; a team. The one exception may have been Jason Williams, had he not had the motorcycle accident....

I was pulling for Butler and Brad Stevens is hot and talented, but what coach K has always done brilliantly is team building and he should be the model for all sports. He is special. He's gone to 8 title games and is two away from tying Wooden. The difference is, college basketball is so much more difficult now...

In my opinion, Coach K is the best coach in the history of College Basketball.

And this is coming from a disciple of the great Jim Calhoun... :-)

As someone who attended Carolina for a time, I can't say I was too thrilled with the outcome, but I respect what Coach K has done for the Blue Devils. To those who say that they don't deserve it because they got the championship handed to them by beating a bunch of pansy teams in the tournament, I call bullshit.

While Duke played better with standouts from Singler and Zoubek, the game was so close that it could really have gone either way. If either of the last two shots (especially that last half-court shot) had gone in, the game could/would have ended very differently. And this was with most of the Butler guys not even playing their best. Imagine what kind of a game it would have been if Hayward or Howard had been in top form.

I, for one, am glad the game was thisclose and not a blowout like the year before. Brad Stevens and Butler has a lot to be proud of. Stevens is young and would likely achieve a lot over his career. I hope he'll stay at Butler and not bolt for Oregon or even the Pacers and see how much more Butler's program can be built up to. Granted, they play in the Horizon League, but it would be nice to see them be a regular elite eight or either a final four contender for several years.

This is the second consecutive year that the home town team has lost the championship to a team from North Carolina.

That had to be hands down the best NCAA Final I've seen! Every single possession was challenged...I couldn't leave my seat! I like the ACC and Duke but was pulling for Butler....and geeeez they almost did it! But like Riptide 42 I'm a die hard Big East fan...Georgetown alum here (did you know that Georgetown beat 3 out of the 4 Final Four teams this year in regular season play - Duke, Butler and W. Va)...anyway, Riptide42 check out a book called From My Seat written by the manager of last years UCONN Final Four team...a good read for all Huskie fans! PS I concur on the Brad Stevens consensus...he is hot and doesn't even know it!

The latest is that Brad Steven has a 12 year contract at Butler. Good going Butler. If he keeps doing such a great job, Butler will have the honor of being hated as much as Duke is. After all, Duke was the beloved Cinderella when they beat UNLV in the semi-finals before finishing off Kansas for the school's first title. That match too was billed as David versus Goliath but the Goliath was undefeated and presumably unbeatable UNLV.

No Duke is the snob school with an overbearing student section that borders on uber-douchery at every home game, along with a history of questionable calls and sports announcer's verbally fellating Coach K and his 'intelligent' players

It's funny how people who have never been near the school can claim to know so much about it and the student body by watching a basketball game. I suppose that says more about the resentment that success can breed in others.

atmosphere builds excitement. The Cameron Crazies are great! I love it. Anyone that has such passion for a common goal shouldnt be scrutinaized. If your favorite school/team/etc has the same excitement would you or anyone else say.. ughhh, how annoying. Probably not.

Duke is a quality team with a great coach. I would love to be able to pick Coach K's brain. I feel a lot could be learned from him in and out of basketball. As far as "intelligent" players. Yep, my guess is that if theya re able to graduate from Duke University and be able to balance the books and bball, id say they are pretty damn intelligent.

Sorry, just irked me a little i guess haha. Nothing against anyone, i know tons of people who hate Duke. I hate the Cowboys, dont mean i think the cheerleaders are annoying or tha loud fans, or the owner who has a HUGE TV screen in thier stadium. All those things are great for the sport. As is the items you listed regarding Duke U.

    phew
