I just found out that my parents back in oklahoma have some guests staying with them right now... sleeping in my old bedroom. They're part of the evangelical christian group from Uganda in support of that anti-homosexuality bill that everyone's been talking about. I'm so glad I'm in California right now, because I swear if I was there things would get bloody.

I have family in Oklahoma and I fully sympathize with you right now. Hopefully you can help your parents see how this is detrimental to you.

Wow, I'm very sorry this is going on.

I read yr profile and gather that religion is a source of potential strife on the family front. Do your parents grasp how hateful and dangerous the views of their house guests are? Christians who espouse the most hair-raising views on gay people seem to overlook the entire New Testament of the Bible. They are stuck with the pre-Christian God and all his smiting and vengeance missing entirely the message of redemption, compassion, love and humanity that suffuses the New Testament. I find it baffling and frustrating. I can only imagine the pain and outrage it causes you.

I would very much enjoy having them stuck with me at a dinner table. I have some choice words for them.

Out of curiosity, why are they staying at your parent's place?

Thats amazing... I mean pretty shocking. Are you out to your parents?
I can see where that would be kind of "a poke in the eye", but your parents might not see it that way at all. Hard to know based on the information given.

Getting violent would only validate their claims of gays being bad people.

While I can't quite relate to this, just the thought of it turns my stomach. The notion that someone who you were around for more of your life than anyone else probably would do something that at least on the surface was done to intentionally hurt you or deny who you are. Seems like they think praying the gay away will make you a different person. I'm glad you are spared from dealing with that mess in person man.

This is one of the few areas where I agree with you completely. Or you could make a donation in their names to the Human Rights Campaign, and let the hilarity ensue . . .

That sucks Blake. It's like adding insult to injury that they're sleeping in your old bedroom. Be the real Christian and try to forgive them. Sorry to hear that.

sorry to hear dude. next time you're home just "booby trap" your room with random golden nuggets from the bible (like passages against wearing poly-cotton blends, or against eating shellfish) or the passages talking about jonathan's love for david being greater than that of a woman's....and hopefully that will enlighten future guests like them.......or discourage them from setting foot in your room. they can't knock your for that.

There are far greater Repulican catastrophies going on in your world than who is speeping in your bed. Your country is on the verge of collapse, financially and morally. The Tea Party would make Hitler proud.

I've been talking to my mom about it. Apparently they didn't know before hand and it was just a coincidence. They met them at some christian conference. My mom said she didn't even know about the bill. I'm still upset about it, but oh well...

Thank you all for your support and suggestions. I'm gonna try to use this as an opportunity to open some eyes to what's been happening there and work towards changing minds.

That sucks. Know this, though, ignorant folks with false belief system don't realize they're ignorant, so, it's not necessarily their fault.

Your parents should KNOW BETTER, having a gay son, and all.

Way to be constructive about the situation! icon_biggrin.gif
