I'm thrilled the Noir Film Festival is back here in San Francisco and at the Castro. It was held at the Balboa Theatre previously and just wasn't the same. Gay audiences get the humor of Joan Crawford throwing herself down a flight of stairs in Sudden Fear.

Any other Noir Film fans out there?

I still the the all time best film noir performance was Barbara Stanwyk's in Double Indemnity. Kathleen Turner was pretty exceptional in Body Heat, however. I feel the archetypical femme fatale is the single most important component in a good noir.

My picks for all time best film noir.

    Double Indemnity (the original)
The Postman Always Rings Twice (the original)
Touch of Evil (Orson Welles best work in my opinion)
    Murder My Sweet
    The Maltese Falcon
    Body Heat
    Blood Simple

The Grifters was only good because of Angelica Houston and the fact that John Cusack and Annette Benning both die.

I saw this movie at a pervious festival - The Postman Always Rings Twice (the original). I believe it was the story of a couple running a small time diner. The female lead gets the hired hand to off her husband.

I have had the theme from The Third Man stuck in my head for the last month.

I took a quarter of Film Noir Study in college. It was easily one of the best classes I've ever taken. We watched most of the classics and the professor tried to work in some of the new stuff as well.
